Rear Shelf Creak

For those who are still experiencing this, I found the source on my 2012.

The little black box below was the culprit. That red plastic is the rear deck light to give you an idea of the location.

Please don't think I am crazy but I laid in the trunk while my wife drove lol
I heard the noise come right from there and when I put my finger on it the noise stopped.

It was driving me nuts for 5 months!

I think you ARE crazy. The sane thing to do woulda been putting your wife in the trunk so YOU could hear the noise go away.

Not crazy at all. My wife and I have done what you did only with older cars

Nope, no rattle when bass is engaged. I hear this when the radio is off.

I still don't know what that black box is. But it moves around.

When I put my finger on it the creak stopped.
I have not figured out yet how to keep it stationary. I tried jamming some foam in there but that didn't work.

I am going to figure something out this weekend.

I can't see hosted pictures at work, but I think it's the XM antenna.

Isn't the XM antenna on the roof?

Ok I just looked at the service manual... it's the XM receiver. It's been a while since I had my rear shelf off, but i think the thing is just held in place with a tie-wrap. You'll have to take the rear deck panel off, but I believe some double-sided tape will hold the part in place without it moving around.

Is it definitely the XM receiver? Because it sure looks like this.

I'm thinking since I am due for an oil change soon to have the dealer just tighten up instead going through the whole deal of removing the rear deck to tighten the bolts.
Should be covered under warranty I would think.

Quick update.

Since I didn't want to wait until I went to the dealer since the noise was annoying the s*$t out of me.....I sprayed the bolts that hold the damper in place with the dupont teflon lubricant. Quite liberally I might add.

Noise is gone....ahhhhh...so nice riding to work this morning

Shelf dampener

Only the sedans get that blasted thing... Since they are installed by hand during assembly, I guess some may just be impatient when tightening down.

For some reason 08-09 coupes do not get them, or at least mine. :o)

Maybe, it is possible to add a whole freak bunch of them in the doors, finders, and body panels, as they are to suppress noise. hehehehe!!!
