I just finished putting in a 2011 TL countersunk shift knob. Thanks to instructions from etout00 and elp_jc.

took me about 30 minutes to install, it was simple. No drill press needed.

I wish I would have taken step by step pictures, but I'm pretty new at posting in forums so it didn't even cross my mind until I was finished.

Start off by popping the silver cap on top of the shifter, you will see a metal hole in the top.

Start out with a drill bit that is slightly larger than the diameter of the hole. Drill completely through the knob. Take your time and make sure you drill straight through it. If it's not straight, you will have the opportunity to correct your mistakes when you go up a size on the next drill bit.

Go up 1 size in drill bit and drill again. Do this until you are at the right size.

I have a drill tap and die set. These are the sizes that I used.

1. 13/64
2. 15/64
3. 17/64
4. 11/31 is the last drill bit i used.

Once the last drill bit is all the way through the shifter, start tapping from the top, using the 10mm x 1.5mm tap. I did 2 full turns, then turned back 1 full turn to clear out all the debris.

When u get done adding the thread from the top, you will need to get rid of some of the thread from the bottom of the shifter so that it can fit over the thick part of the shift lever.

For this, i used a 12mm wood drill bit ()

I drilled from the bottom until there was about a quarter of an inch of the plastic left. You should have about a quarter inch of the plastic thread left plus the top metal portion.

Hey where did you order it from? And will it fit without being countersunk?

I got mine from Delray Honda just because it was in FL and shipping wouldn't take too long. It will not fit without being modified as the Accord shift lever is thicker than the TL's.

Thanks for the info buddy. but wow, I didn't realize that this mod requires drilling.

Don't let it scare you off. If you get stuck or need help just let me know. It's really not that bad. It's very soft aluminum and plastic that you're drilling through.

Junction, (sorry I didn't reply to your PM btw)

Here is another good option if you haven't already purchased drill bits and taps. Home Depot sells a little kit that packages a 10mm tap with the correct size drill bit for less than $10. I'll include the link. Literally all I did was stick that drill bit into the original threaded hole on the shift knob and drill a hole all the way through. Since it's a fairly tight fit, it's automatically going to be aligned and you won't have to worry about drilling the hole crooked. Then you'll just need a 1/2" bit to open up the first inch of the original hole so it will screw over the thicker part of the shifter (you'll understand this better once you start screwing on the TL knob). Then just thread the tap all the way through the hole. You don't need a drill press (although it's helpful) but you probably will need a vice or some way to securely hold the knob while you're drilling.

You explained it much simpler and quicker than I did.

Hey if you're willing to sink both of them, shoot me a PM and maybe we can work out a deal for one of them after you've drilled it. I'm a terrible futz with tools.
