How good is this upgrade offer from deler from LXP to EX ?

My car is 2010 LXP with 22k miles. Bought it with 4k down payment. My loan terms are for 60 months and $300 per month. So far I have completed 22 monthly payments. I got an offer from dealer to upgrade to 2012 EX. My loan will start over again for 60 months with $300 per month. It is like paying $6600 and upgrading to 2012 EX. Is it a good deal?

If you were to go for that deal, how much additional out of pocket money would you have to come up with? Down payment, taxes, tags, fees, etc, etc. I am assuming the dealer is wrapping that into the 300 / 60 months.

If you were to go that route, you just lost 6600 bucks because you're starting a brand new 60 months. But, you are getting a warranty that starts at 0. Your current car prolly is nearing the end of the 3/36 warranty.

Personally, I wouldn't do it. But, as always, you have to do what you feel right.

After glancing at Honda's website where they detail the differences between the trim levels, the ones that stick out is the ex's come with a sunroof, alloy wheels and a few other misc things. There's nothing in there that would be a big enough differentiator to loose over 6 grand, in my opinion.

do you really wanna spend THAT MUCH more money just to get a sunroof?

you can upgrade your stereo yourself and get a headunit with bluetooth and all that crap for about 800 bucks and have the best equipment...

i dont think thats worth just to basically get a sunroof

Personally, I don't think it's good at all. Maybe I'm not getting it, but to me, you're just losing $6,600 in equity. I get what the guys above are saying, but maybe it's the built in response when you hear the words "dealer" and "good deal" together.

They're not in it to make me and you good deals, they're in it to make money. Make sure you see how and where every dollar goes. To me, this just sounds like you bought a new car and paid an additional $6,600 for the "same thing" as your old one.

additional $6k, pop a V6 into the equation, then you got a deal.

with only 22K on your Accord, its hardly broken in and would last you a long, long time.

I'm in a very similar situation with my 2010 Accord LXS Coupe with only 24K on it and my payments about the same. if I had that deal in front of me, I would 'pass'. the sunroof on the EX is the only option that I would like to have and for the $6K difference, its not THAT important I have one.

its up to you, but with the economy still fragile and who knows what may happen with our job situation down the road, having a car that is nearly half paid for is much better than a brand new loan you'll be paying on for another 3 years.

In addition to the sunroof, the EX also has:

Shock tower stabilizer bar
Active noise cancelation
Upgraded cloth seats
Woodgrain trim
13 more HP
6 disc in dash cd player
Side mirror defrost
Rear A/C vents
Larger wheels, better tires
10 way power driver seat

It would be more helpful to clarify what they will give you for your trade, purchase price of the EX, etc.

I got my EX for 21,200 +ttl

Thanks for all the feedback. Looks like, $6600 hit for moving from 2 year old car to similar car is not worth it.

A wise decision. It surely is not worth it at all *for you*. Dealers very rarely, or should I say will never, give deals like that where the buyer truly wins and is better off. They'd be out of business.
