Question Apple iPhone fans - pricing?

When will be a good time to get the 4S? The easy answer is, later on when the 5 comes out.

Now, I don't want the 5, but my contract is up, so I can get a new phone. So I would want a 4S. All my docking and connections are with the current system. I read that 5 will have a new smaller one.

The "Official" intro date is 9/21.

From your memory based, when will the price of the 4S start to drop? Or will it since the 3GS is still hanging around new at $0.99.

3GS 8GB- $0.99
4 8GB- $99
4S16GB - $199

Do you think prices will start to drop near 9/21 or after? Or if it will drop at all in the near future. Meaning the iPhone 5 will probably come in at $399. So from a pricing strategy, the 4s are still in line.

If that is the case, might as well get one now.

What do you experts think?

When you need one.

I laughed at the people who blew $300 or $400 on the iPhone 4S when it came out, but then complained when they didn't have money to go out or pay their rent.

Unless they will give it to you for free, or you need a phone right away, I would wait another month or 2. Who knows, you might like the 5 when it comes out.

True, but I'm not changing all my docking stuff, so no matter how much I will like the 5, it's 4S for me.

I'd be shocked to see a smaller docking port. Only Bc it's an apple trade mark and I can't see why there would be a need to change it.

Next, about 1 week or 2 prior to the iPhone 5 release date the 4S will drop price.

Prepare to be shocked when the next iPhone comes out then.

There have been plenty of reports that Apple's going with a new and smaller dock connector for it. Why? Some think Apple could be incorporating a Mag-Safe type connection so it breaks away when pulled/yanked on.

That does **** about the port. I have 3 radio docks, two I owned before I had an iPhone because they were good clock radios, and a fourth for my daughter's really old ipod nano. All the gym equipment on base has iPod/phone docks. But they've never been afraid to phase out their own equipment. Look at how many display outputs they have gone through in the last decade. What, 6? People will just smile and upgrade, and not pay rent? lol

I think they are going to go with a smaller port too, the reasons I've heard for this was to incorporate a bigger/better speaker system and also to free up some space inside for a bigger battery / other upgrades. It does **** though, my car has the old one and I dont see myself changing it out.. Just keep the 4 and retire it as strictly an iPod I guess.

No worries. There should be an adapter for the new smaller connector.

Well if they make the smaller port hopefully they'll design a faster charger. As far as everything having the other dock cable I'll gladly update to new equipment as it becomes available.

Why should you need one? Every other phone manufacturer has gone to the industry standard micro-USB port, which has worked just fine in millions of devices.

Refusing to standardize for the sake of being "unique", limiting the options of your customers, and then charging $20 for said cable, is dickish.

No, it is snobbish. If they wanted to benevolent they would make a magnetic tiny connector and give away the licenses for the technology for free. Everyone would adapt to it and Apple fans would be annoyed that their technology was less elitist.

why would you not want to get the iphone 5 first of all.. the hardware is gonna be a lot better and the upgrade price has ALWAYS been the same for the each new iphone that came out.. IE, iphone 4 16gb was 199 for upgrade price before iphone 4S came out.. when i phone 4S was released the 16gb 4S was also 199. 32gb was 299, 64gb 399

the price will be the same

Hm, so unlike every other time a new iPhone is released, this time the 4S wont get discounted?
