Painted spoiler just arrived :)

Well y'all, I took a gamble at saving hundreds - eBay spoiler ($110 painted + shipped) vs. OEM Spoiler ($370 + s/h). I'll tell you, I am very impressed with the eBay one. The paint job is using 2K primer, OEM Graphite Gray paint (3 coats) & Clear (3 coats).

I'm not sure if the OEM one comes with a LED brake light, hell I didn't even know the eBay one did! So this is definitely a nice compliment to my already LED tails & 3rd brake light

I will hopefully find time on Monday to get it put on. I'm a little nervous about drilling the trunk, but I'm sure it'll be fine. Has anyone already installed the eBay version? Does it line up with the spots already marked on the trunk lid?

Just taken out of its bubble wrap:

Addendum: Crap. I just noticed that this is NOT the correct OEM style spoiler! It has a smooth rounded top, whereas the OEM has the two raised areas on each side for that sporty look. I just contacted the seller...looks like I'm going to have to ship it back and either see if he has the correct one, or ask for my money back :-\ There is a 30 day return period.

Do you have a 7th gen or 7.5 gen? That looks like a 7th gen spoiler

I have a 7.5 Gen - and the listing even specified "2006 2007 Factory Style Painted Spoiler"

You're right though, it definitely looks more like the 03-05 coupe spoiler. When they respond, I will be sure to let them know this. Thanks Tom!

Looks like they sent you a wing spoiler for an 8th gen coupe. Does the ebay one include heavier duty trunk springs?

Well, I contacted the seller last night to inform him that the wrong one was sent. I'm hoping with his high feedback rate and over 14k reviews, we can get this settled fast & painlessly.

The eBay ones do not come with the heavy duty trunk springs. You can buy them from H and A for $30...which you'll still only be spending $140 vs $370...

@ zetaroy: you nailed it on the head, bud...I just checked the invoice they sent me & it specifically states 08+ Honda Accord Coupe Spoiler. So I made a copy of the original invoice to send back to them circling the 08+ and putting INCORRECT and writing that specifically a 2006-2007 Accord Coupe spoiler was ordered. So that's their screw up, not mine - if they check the auction. Now they'll have to repaint a new spoiler at their own cost.

Has anyone tried installing the spoiler with 3M double sided tape? I was thinking that would be a way to bypass having to drill my trunk lid if the next owner wouldn't want the spoiler... I had a spoiler on the rear of my Audi A6 that I used 3M and it stayed on the entire 2.5 years I had the car - including through the rough PA winters.

I recently bought a spoiler for my 07 sedan off eBay as well. I was impressed with the marking paint, only thing is the templet they provide isn't good at all. The holes on the trunk lid don't align perfectly with the spoiler so you gotta be careful when installing

I thought I read that (about the holes not aligning) - thanks for verifying! I truly am thinking about just covering the entire section that touches the trunk like with 3M double sided tape instead of drilling...never had an issue with it before

I've installed spoilers on 3 cars that I've owned in the past couple years including both my Accords. Its a pretty easy job. I was also a bit intimidated about the drilling, but the templates and instructions they provide make it very easy. Drilling each hole takes literally 5 seconds. They dont have to match the marks on the trunk perfectly. Im not worried about the heavy duty springs. Trunk works just fine. I also cant imagine the spoiler staying on with only tape. I certainly wouldnt want to take a chance

The paint finish of the ebay spoilers is pretty good. What I dont like about them is the LED brake lights. They are smaller and not as bright as the OEM brake light. And because they're a different size, I cant just order a OEM light and put it on the ebay spoiler. On a very bright sunny day, the brake light looks dim, and I dont like that. I'm not sure if they're all like that, or just depends on who you purchase from

If I had known this, I probably would've gotten the OEM spoiler

Well, I heard back from them the very first thing this morning and I am quite impressed with their customer service! Here is the message I received:

I am so sorry. I invoiced the wrong year. Please make sure the spoiler is rewrapped and reboxed and ready for pick up. We will have the spoiler picked up tomorrow. We have the 06-07 Accord 2dr in NH658P in stock and will ship today.

- thespoilercompany

So not only do they have one ready to ship out in the correct paint color, but they ARE paying for return shipping

@ mc1114: Regarding the templates - are you referring to the OEM templates or the eBay ones? b/c by the sneak peak of the eBay ones yesterday, I was not quite impressed. The OEM ones look very easy to use. With the spoiler for the 06-07 Coupes, there are no LED brake lights, so that's at least one less thing I have to worry about lol That's why when I received the spoiler on Saturday, I was so confused. ("An LED brake light...? I didn't think it came with one") was my exact thought. So, I'm sure I'll be pretty happy with the eBay vs. OEM one (being that it doesn't have LEDs) I'm not worrying about the trunk springs for now either, I never even use my trunk unless I'm back there changing the gain on my amplifier LOL
