Knocking/ ticking sound when first started in morning

If I missed it I apologize but I did search on here and on v6p for hours and found nothing about this... with that in mind here goes...

every morning when I start my '05 v6 ex I get a low ticking/ knocking sound. I recently bought my Americcord from a dealer and had them check it out twice before I bought it. They say they found nothing wrong and could not duplicate the sound. It happens every morning! My dad thinks I should just put a heavier weight oil in during the summer. but both of us agree that the car should not be doing this especially seeing as how there is only 66k on it!

My question is this... should I be concerned? should I just put heavier weight (50w) oil in? did I just get hosed?

I have about a thousand miles till the warranty is up!

Take it back, leave it overnight, then be there when they start it so you can point out what you hear.

My 04 V6 does the same thing. Every morning it makes a ticking sound until it warms up. I only have 78k miles on mine.

I haven't been able to figure it out yet.

I am running 5w20 Mobil 1.

IDK maybe I should just try an heavier weight and see what happens... should probably do that before the warranty goes....

My 03 V6 EX has ticked every morning when started when I first bought it 3 years ago. No worries I think its just the rocker arms ticking until the oil is warm. It doesnt flow as well when cold. If the tick goes away after being warmed up its not a rod so I wouldnt worry. I also would not put any oil thicker than 5w-30 in it. I use 5w-20 mobil one as well. Putting oil in thats too thick is definately not good for the motor.

Check you spark plugs to see if any are loose. Some V6 engines have had issues with plugs getting loose and blowing out. They can make a ticking sound just before letting go. Probably not the problem if it has been ticking for "years".

Is this the same dealer that sold you the car that also checked it out for you? Which dealer since I'm familiar with the Columbus area?

My 05 6-6 does a ticking sound when I start it and it is cold. After 2-3 minutes of driving, the ticking goes away.

It does it since I changed the t-belt, tensionner, spark plugs more then a year ago.

No other problems or issues since...

I'm not much of a mechanic, but it may be noisy lifters. If it's loose piston rings, you may be burning oil slowly. +1 on nothing thicker than 5w-30, don't use additives.

If it's under warranty, might be worth the effort to ask other places and get what they say in writing.

Drop it off the night before. That way it can sit overnight and they can check it out COLD during start up. Arrange for loaner thru dealer or get a ride to work. Usually, on saturdays theres only one or none of the techs working. Just the lube express guys doing the quicky oil changes.
