Is It Worth It Modding A 4cyl Auto ?

I just needed some opinions. I have a 4 banger auto and alot of the cars that I see on here that are modded CAI, TSX intake they are at least a manual. I love my girl, and being that its starting to get a bit colder in the northern states, I'm gonna probably start saving up for things to add to her in Spring. I was definitely gonna go the with the TSX Manifold and probably a CAI or SRI if it even makes a difference, and probably add the oem navigation unit, better OEM rims, and small stuff here and there but then I wondered if the performance add ons atleast were even worth it in a 4 Auto.

Do you track race? If not then no, its not worth it. Some people on here modify the crap out of their cars and don't get much more then 5-10 hp per mod, depending on the mod. From what I read on here, most things cost anywhere from 200-400 dollars for a quality made mod (ie SRI) meaning you could spend upwards of a thousand dollars but get less then 50 hp. The benefit to mods like SRI's or CAI's is that they will make the car sound 'meaner'. I've modified my car in terms of looks, because to me its not worth spending that much on such little performance.

Like Mitchell, I just stick to cosmetic mods.

If it is worth it to you to do, then yes it is worth it. It shouldn't matter how other people feel about modifying their cars. It's your car, if you want to throw a whole bunch of mods at it and never touch a track, then fine, do it. It's really not that big of a deal. You won't get any support on this forum for modifying a 4 cylinder auto. For these guys, the only accord worth modifying is a manual v6. So, don't ask most of these guys for their advice. You'll just get a no. But if everyone listened to that, then we wouldn't have either of BISIMOTO's cars. Fastest all motor f22 insight and a 700hp civic wagovan. Both 4 cylinders, both worth modifying to him. Do what you want.

Do it! Best mods I've done are TSX IM and throttle body, and the lightweight pullies are a must have for the i4. I've also improved mpgs from these mods not anything crazy but I do average about 2-4 mpg more per tank since i've modded mine. Once I hit 80,000 miles and the warranty is up...it's on!

While tuning it the way you want it is nice. I love doing cosmetic mods too. So why not do the best of both worlds?

As for the SRI or CAI I have the Weapon-R Secret weapon SRI which are CARB legal if you live in states that require emissions checks. it cost about 200, but thanks to andysautosport. i wrote up a DIY and they rebated me $100. So technically it only cost 100 It also enhances the look of the bay tremendously. No giant black box or tubes.

check out my youtube channel if you'd like.

Best mod for the money is the TL-S sway bars, from there TSX manifold, a header, pulleys, and finally a SRI or CAI.

A little extra passing power never hurts.

Yup, what he said. Do like I did and throw some wheels on it and tint the windows. Most bang for the buck. Remeber, you wreck it and the insurance don't care what you have on it because you will not get another dime for it. Been there done that.

Go for it if it'll make you happy. I wouldn't do it to my I4/auto but that's just me.

i currently have a j30 (accord), f22 (accord), d16 (civic), and b18 (integra).. obviously v6 is the fastest and most powerful.. but i can say without a doubt the little mods don't make much difference between the cars.. always go with quality parts.. go with a catback and sri for sound and if you get a little performance outta it than consider it a plus. if your a hefty guy lose 100 pounds and youll do more for the performance than any single mod haha. pullies are great bang for buck performance too but honestly anything involving handling (suspension, wheels/tires, brakes, sway bars) have been the most fun for me overall.. a slow car is just as fun as a fast one if you can throw it through corners nice

Yeah, I think it's worth it but it depends on you. If you LOVE driving then you will love the rear sway bar, front strut tower bar, better tires, etc. They make a pretty big difference in the drive. As the saying goes: more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow.

yes and no.... as far as racing maybe bracket yes but other then that not without spending a ton of money, i would say do the basics do a CAI, maybe the TSX TB and Intake mani you can probably find them cheap somewhere, If im not mistaken the motor in yours is the K24 correct?? if so that motor is actually a strong motor my friend tsx with a kpro reflash and CAI beat a K24 swapped 4door civic... if it is the k24 get a k24 reflash CAI TSX TB and Intake mani, maybe a test pipe to remove the cat and a free flowing muffler cherrybomb makes a good turbo muffler thats quiet and flows nice get a 2.5 in 2.5 out and those modds would be probably the most you can do without major money involved you should see a 5-20hp gain but most of all you fuel eco will increase greatly even over the already great mileage my friend tsx averages like 30-35mpg
