Still really like my 7th gen Accord
...OK, so last week I went in to the dealer and tried out the new Accord, nice, good inside and out, good job on the styling this time around. Everything they say in the reviews checks out with me as well, although I'm not one who is overly thrilled with all the electronic gadgets, but at least you can turn them off if you don't want to use them. Both cars I tried out were the Touring models, one V6 and the other the i4, both automatics...
...after looking and trying them out, each time I got back into my 05 EXL, I let out a pleasant sigh of satisfaction as it felt so good to get back into my "old" car. I much prefer the dash layout and interior design on my "old" 7th gen to the newer designs, 8th and 9th, although the 9th is a definite improvement over the 8th. The only area the 9th really falls short in my view is for interior storage space, the practical little things, compared to my 7th gen, the 9th gen not only doesn't make it, it doesn't even come close. The seats on my 05 fit like a glove, the instruments are, in my mind, perfect, and all the controls fall easily at hand, its an ergonomic tour d'force. The seats on the 8th were uninhabitable for me due to the head rest and lumbar support, the 9th gen seats are much much better but the head rest still tilts my head forward and feels like it lowers my chin into my chest as I prefer to have my seats more upright as opposed to the laid back style that many like... ...the 5 speed auto on my 05 is still amazing and feels great, it just knows when to make the right shift changes and is easy to gear down with if necessary. The auto on the V6 feels much the same, but the CVT on the 4 banger doesn't feel at all like what I'm used to. My 05 EXL is just so easy to fling around when driving it, it never feels heavy, its easy to maneuver when parking. The steering and throttle responses are instant and tight, road feel is great and it definitely makes wonderful noises when you push it hard... ...so I guess what I'm saying is that, at this point, I'm not that sold on the new Accord yet, maybe we'll take a closer look when they finish doing whatever mid model changes they come up with in the next few years, but for the time being, I'm still very content with my 7th gen 05 EXL, and seeing that it only has 80k on the clock, it should prove to have a few good years left before there's any mechanical "needs" that show up... ...just a few musings that have been running around in my head after checking out the latest Accord... cheers, Lorne Miller |

Yeah, I'm loving my 2004 EX-L V6. I have to admit I haven't test driven the a 2013 yet and I love the styling of it. But I don't think I will be trading for one. I really enjoy not having a car payment and like the OP said, I'd rather wait to see what mid-model changes will be made before I buy one. Also, sometimes the first year of a new model still have some kinks that may need to be worked out.

I'd have to agree with everything you mentioned about the feel and response regarding the 7th Gen, trainchaser. That is why this past summer when I was looking at 7th & 8th Gen Accord Coupes (specifically EX-L V6's) I kept coming back to the 7's. I do not regret one second or one penny of my decision, either. I've now owned her about 2 months and find myself falling in love more and more every day

I am in complete agreement with OP on this one. I have spent some time with a 2013 LX sedan at the dealer (sat in it, played with the electronics for quite a while, connected my iPhone, but I didn't drive it). I find it to be an improvement inside and out compared to the 8th generation. Clearly it has more current technologies than my 2007, but for me my '07 is perfect in almost every way. Overall, it's a better and more enjoyable car to own, and I'll be doing so for years to come. It's got everything I need and nothing that I don't need. I couldn't be more satisfied with it. Long live the 7th generation Accord!

I had a 2007 LX for 3 years and loved it. Still spot them out and around and think they still look sharp as hell. Bought my '12 back in August and I have to admit I like it better. Outside, the 07 looks better I think, most especially the rear end but I love the feel of the '12 while driving. It feels smoother and is a little more fun to drive. I like the interior better too. Still, the 7th Gen was definitely a fine piece of engineering.

I have had my 7th gen for many years now. First bought a new 05 accord sedan i4 LX, after a serveral years, saw a couple MV6, liked it, bought one 03 used fully loaded, parked the i4 at home use it occationally when I know i would have more than 1 passenger. Recently got a BMW 335i, needed money for down payment but still decide to not trade in any of my accords (I should have traded the i4 sedan in).
Now I drive my Accord for fun, and my bimmer for "socializing" lol. |

The new accord is very nice. I hate the way CVTs drive, I would never want one. So I'd either go V6 with the 6AT, or get the plug in hybrid (if the car's gonna drive like a hybrid anyway, it may as well actually be a hybrid).
I'd miss the turn knobs on my climate controls - switches just aren't as easy to adjust while driving. The dealer offered me 4000 below KBB on my trade in. So there's no way they're getting her! I'll stay in the 0 payment club until this car can't go anymore (which on an accord is still a lot of miles). Then I'm confident I'll be happy with the 9th gen if it becomes my new car.

I havent driven a 2013 so I cant say but I did test drive a 2012 and 2013 Altima and they dont drive like a CVT at all. Theyre set up to shift like a regular automatic as opposed to smooth constant shifting or whatever it does. If I didnt know different, I wouldnt have been able to tell I was in a CVT. Hopefully, Honda is doing the same with theirs.
