Early Mods

Sorry, not talking CAIs and catbacks here. Was just over discussing extended warranties with Mikey, not about to waste good money here Much more focused on spending relatively small amounts of money here or there to improve the Accord. With that out of the way, on to my list:

1) Much like the 9006 low-beams in my 06s can be "upgraded" to 9012 HIR2s, I was looking into upgrading the stock bulbs on the 13. Said stockers are the pretty much universally panned 55W H11's. Some owners of other brands have had success using 65W H9 bulbs, which are typically cheap (<$10) but are much shorter lasting. However, one key difference is H11 bulbs are usually tipped, while the H9's aren't. This is fine if the reflector/projector housing has something to block the glare. So, has anyone else looked into this for the Accord projectors, or would otherwise know if this will work? I hope so, because for $20, this is probably the single biggest bang for the buck. Also, HIDs/retrofits need not apply. I'm just not going there, though I'm sure lots will want to.

2) College Hills has a horn upgrade kit, and thank goodness for that. I couldn't believe the downgrade from the 06 horns... I had an old Mazda that meep-meep'd in much the same way, and it drives me up a wall. $30 seems well worth it.

3) Hood strut kit. I forgot the 4 doesn't get these, so imagine my surprise when I was lifting the hood in the showroom and let go expecting the hood to go up and it slammed in my face College Hills again, but $100 this time. "How often do you really open the hood on a Honda?" is a valid counterpoint, but the struts are such a nice touch... and very much a "once you have them" thing.

4) Splash guards and trunk tray. Yeah, I know these are factory accessories and not so much mods, but they don't come with the car. At $70 and $100 they aren't the cheapest either, but the splash guards look nice and protect the car; the trunk tray is another nice-to-have.

5) Clear bra. There's another thread for this, though. Far and away the most expensive.

Those are my top priorities, for now. More pie-in-the-sky mods are LED DRL's (another thread for that, too), maybe the sport dual exhaust, HomeLink "retrofit" if I find myself needing it. Accessories on the "maybe" list include illuminated door sill trim, cargo net, Honda all season mats.

So, what's on your list?

I would say on my list is:
  • OEM sport grille
  • OEM decklid spoiler
  • OEM splash guards
  • OEM trunk tray
  • OEM illuminated door sill
  • changing the standard foglight bulb to yellow
  • putting in HID 10k bulbs

Not sure if I want to put the door guards on or not. Maybe down the line the underbody spoilers. Also may put the OEM moonroof visor as well and am surprised they do not have visors for the window like they have done for the past gen.

Yup, the trunk tray is really nice, fits like a glove and easy to clean. Surprised noone is interested in changing out the halogens to LEDs ala the Tourning.

I already have the splash guards and the trunk tray, and I believe both should be everyone's mod list.

I also just bought a 5000k Morimoto kit, gotta fully utilize the projectors right?

My next mod will be a CAI if someone comes out with a good design.

This is interesting, but then you have one option - OEM LEDs. Aside from cost, if they're not bright enough, you're stuck. Maybe someone with a touring can comment on visibility with those LEDs... but, I'm still hoping the H9 mod is going to be possible. Based on the results others have had (albeit with other vehicles), it can't be beaten for the price.

the LED projectors are just as bright, if not brighter than my 50w 5000k D2S Morimotos I retrofitted into my Civic. I will be taking possession of my 13 Coupe with the LED projectors in a couple weeks (hopefully) and will post pics asap

My List. All from College Hills except the snow stuff from Tire Rack:
  • Michelin X-Ice Xi3 Snows with Alloy Wheels and Wheel Locks
  • HomeLink Upgrade
  • Horn Upgrade, I would have swapped with my 03 if I had ownership overlap
  • Illuminated Door Sill Trim
  • Interior Illumination
  • All Season Floor Mats. I will take them out when not winter.
  • Wheel Locks. See lug nut thread why the snow wheel locks don't work.

Can you get a Homelink part that wires directly into the car's power source like the V6 has?

An LED projector headlight swap from the touring would cost quite a lot money. FYI, for comparison purposes, on a Nissan leaf, EACH headlight runs upwards of $1000.

So I doubt many people would order those separately after purchasing their car.

An HID projector swap would be the most economical solution with the greatest light output I believe.

I LOVE the MSM! I had the alabaster silver metallic on the '12 V6 and wasn't much of a fan of it. Only reason I got it was that it was the only EX-L V6 that had leather and when I traded it for the '13, I was tickled pink. I would be torn though if they had the hematite metallic since that color looks pretty sharp too!

Honda parts eStore has the part listings for the 13 Accord; though I haven't seen them at Majestic or others yet. Doesn't look like you can get the LED bulbs separate from the housing, which cost $260 each. I'm sure Majestic will beat that by a country mile, but still, ouch.

And yes, MSM is a great color

@ python: When you get to the point when it needs a wash and you detail and wax and all that other fun stuff, you wont be disappointed! I gave mine the royal treatment last weekend and the color really pops out when clayed, polished, and waxed after a wash!
