Does it tach higher than 5000rpm in another gear. Just try going higher while not dogging it or hard launching. Like do a 2nd gear pull on highway and see if it goes over 5000rpm. I have never heard of a rev limit being different per gear for a manual trans.

Since you quoted the OP, what do you think he meant by "Any other gear it spins no problems"? That he's doing 180's or 360's?

Yeah basically, in my mind he is burning them down so it doesnt have a chance to rev to 5000+

Does the Accord electronically lower the limiter under a set engine temperature, many bikes and cars do.Wondering if the motor wasn't up quite to temp.

Thanks for the replies guys and by spinning I meant the engine winding up to reach redline.... But I figured it out I had poly motor mounts put in the other day and as a 'favor' they replaced the oil which I usually do myself. One of the things I thought it might be was oil pressure and sure enough it was low. I just put some vavaline in and made damn sure it was the correct level and she's running like a champ again:-)

This may be a combination of VTEC and engine coolant temperature.

Years ago I rigged a small LED indicator light to the VTEC acuator solenoid power so I can see when VTEC cam is engaged on the 96' Integra GSR I had at the time, what I found out is VTEC will not engage before the engine coolant temperature reaches a certain range, so it's possible the 5,000 RPM redline in first gear reported by OP may be related, although I've never delibertly tried yet, I can't say I ever remember reaching the RPM cut-off in 5,000 RPM only in first gear.

Perhaps I've subconcisously factored in the colder ambient temperature and never redline the engine until the car is warmed up.

Or perhaps you are overthinking it. Seems like the OP already figured it out. You should worry about what other "favors" this shop is doing without telling you. Seems SHAAAADY
