Remote Start Issues
What's up everyone,
I have an issue with my remote start on my newly purchased Accord. I will try to give you guys as much info as possible to find a solution. I have a 2012 Accord EX-L V6 Coupe. It is the second one within 3 months. I lost the first one to Superstorm Sandy 41 days after I drove off the lot with it. Part of the deal with the first car was a Remote Start from Automate Model AM7. When I used the remote start it would start with one crank. No issues. I got the same exact car shorty after my first one was totaled and this car was installed with the AM6 model from Automate at the dealership. At first the remote would start within one crank and have no issues. but these last 3 weeks (figure 3 weeks into having this car) I'm having issues where it would require a second crank 50% of the time. I have about 800 miles on the car and still within the "break-in" process so I'm not doing anything stupid where the engine would deteriorate. I did notice that manually starting the car three weeks ago (when the remote issue started) that it would require having it on the "Start" position for a fraction of a second longer to start the car or that can very well be my imagination. I hope this is enough information to go by. Ask questions and I will do my best to answer them. Thanks in advance. |

Are you up north? It could be that the colder weather is causing a longer crank time. I believe the remote start should have a setting for how long to hold the crank until it starts.

Sound like they did not tie the tach wire, so it's using voltage sense to start. When it's cold it takes longer to start, causing second crank.

I live in New York City. It was cold last night and I tried it around 8:30pm and it started on the seond go. Tried it this morning when it was below freezing and it worked flawlessly. I don't think its the temperture. I don't know if my model has a setting to adjust crank time. I searched on google and yielded nothing.
@mobiless2: If it does use voltage sense would it be a quick fix to tie the tach wire? I'd rather DIY the problem but it's something the dealership should do I'll take it to them. Again guys thanks for the help. I'm new to this stuff and I'm learning as I go. |

Check alarm module for a violet wire w/white strip to see if it's connneted. That is your tach input wire.
Many techs cheat & set alarm for voltage sense.

So I took it to the dealership. It was indeed the crank time being too low. As of press time I have no issues. I would have liked to trouble shoot the thing myself but I lack confidence as this is my first car and I'm learning as a go. I will check to see if everything is hooked up such as the violet/white wire. I appreciate the help.

If is working don't start pulling wires. If it was installed by the dealer.it is warranted by the new car warranty. That means 3 years/36 months. Let the dealer worry about it.

Yes you're right. I won't touch anything and leave it be.

If they are talking about crank time then it's on voltage sense. Lazy bastards.
So they extended the crank time for colder weather, then in the spring it will over crank.

Then if that's the case is it something that I can adjust on my own? Do I need a special type of gadget to hook up to the unit in order to communicate to it?
Sorry for the late response by the way. |

You should be able to change the crank time using the remote. You need the manual to tell you which menus to get into.
