Fluttering noise around 60-65 miles/hr

I am long time forum reader but this is my first post in this forum. I purchased a 2013 Accord V6 EX-L couple of weeks ago and am noticing a slight fluttering noise as soon as I cross 60-65 miles/hr. This is very slight noise which is tough to hear if the music is on at a decent volume. The noise seems to go away if I put the car in "S"(Sport) mode.

I have taken it back to the dealer and they have confirmed the noise. They have tried various things and they think that they have narrowed it down to the noise cancellation in the VCM(variable cyclinder management). Dealer has also opened a service ticket with Honda and are waiting for Honda to get back to them. I have another appt next week because according to the dealer most of the Honda guys were out for the vacation and they wanted to spend dedicated time with the car.

Has anyone run into a similar issue with their car.

I've had my V6 EX-L since Thanksgiving and haven't noticed it though I'll listen for it and post here if I do.

Hi obelix - I too am having a similar issue with our EX-L V6 Sedan. Although, I would say ours is easier to hear. Seems to be most noticeable between 60 and 70 - and occurs when the speedometer ring goes bright green. I tried to capture it on video, although it is tough to hear with the road noise. If I release the gas pedal, it immediately stops. It happens with and without Eco mode on, with and without Cruise on, and in D and S (although less obvious in S).

I went on a test drive with a service tech a couple of weeks ago on a very windy day, and he was able to hear it. He contacted Honda and they told him they were not aware of any similar issues. We are dropping it off with them on Monday for a more thorough look.

Here is a link to the video.
You have to listen to it from the beginning to notice the noise, which really kicks in around 0:24 seconds in. When I let off the gas (around 0:31 seconds), the noise dissipates.

Does this seem/sound similar to your noise?

Says "This video is private".

I'm interested since my sister's 2008 Honda Civic is having a similar issue, she can't even tell since she's pretty clueless about cars, but I was able to hear it as soon as I took the car up to about 60 MPH, I could not see anything obviously loose under the hood......

This noise is definitely coming from the engine. When it happens, it will immediately stop if I let off the gas.

It is most noticeable at 0:24 seconds in, but you need to listen from the beginning to notice the difference. At 0:31 it completely stops (when I let off the gas).

How can I tell when VCM kicks in?

Pittpanther,

It's sounds very similar to my issue. I am not 100% sure because I had to listen to the video multiple times but the overall symptoms look exactly the same.

My dealer has opened a service request with Honda and I am going to drop the car at the dealer on Tuesday. I also talked head technician and he said based on his experience it sounds like it is related to VCM but he needs to do more tests.

Keep me posted if you get any updates and I will do the same.

Cheers,

Here is a slightly revised version of the video clip - tried to amplify the sound when it happens:

Update: dealer replaced some of the exhaust components today, but are still working with Honda to isolate the issue. They are keeping the car over night.

Update from my side -

Dealer just informed me that they worked with Honda to do multiple tests and were not able to get a fix. Honda is not acknowledging the defect yet but the dealer is very confident that this has to do with the VCM and noise comes when the engine switches to 3 cylinders. Dealer also told me that Honda is coming with a software update but did not know what the update was about.

Its pretty disappointing and I am hoping Pittpanther gets a better update.I expected better from Honda
