Bad mpg???

Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong I just did the first fill up on my accord coupe v6 and I got real world values of 21mpg I had the econ button almost the entire time and I pushed it maybe once or twice but 21 is lower than city mpg and most of my driving was highway any input would be appreciated

Too many possible variables here, but see below for some reasons why winter mileage is worse than summer.

Having the Econ button on all the time is actually wasting more gas then saving. Reason being when your accelerating the Econ button causes your engine to work harder. For best MPG try using Econ only when your on the highway and on cruise control.

Lol....the econ button makes my engine work harder? I heard that about using the seat belt too. Cause it has to struggle to hold me.

Whoa anything to back up this claim? If this is true I wish to know why

yeah on my 2007, i feel im getting beyond horrible mpg too, i just changed my air filter which was filthy from the last owner, did a oil change, atf change 3x. Hopefully it helps, but i gotta wait until the summer to truly know, cause winter is just brutal when trying to get the best out of your mpg and i live in Canada, brutal winters.

You're certainly on the low end of the numbers from the people posting on Fuelly. I would wait to see what you get on the second fill up - it's possible the tank wasn't totally filled up when you picked up car.

Not even remotely true.

The Econ button changes things like when the compressor activates (and for how often), timings for the CVT-equipped model, and other electrical items. It has a slight performance hit, but will never make the engine "work harder".

Quite the opposite, it makes it easier for the engine to handle driving by eliminating some of the other things that bog it down. Keeping it on at all times theoretically boosts mpg, but not by a huge margin.

I dont know if it is true but if seems like it keeps it in higher gear and often feels like the engine is lugging because of this. I dont like to keep mine in econ mode for stop and go traffic. This is also a reason why i never used econ mode before i hit 2k miles on the OMeter.

Thinks guys I appreciate ur inputs I'm hoping I get better on the second fillup 21 was kinda disappointing considering the way I was driving...sometimes in city driving on econ does seem to struggle a little bit but I'm not sure if that's good or bad

21 MPG for V6 is about right based on my experience. I pull about 24 MPG with 4 Cylinder Sport Edition with with 50% Highway, 50% Short(2-4 Mile Trips) Suburban.

City rating on car label assumes about 10 mile trip with warm start.

Labels and forum reported MPG's don't reflect real world mix for many of us which with cold starts and short trips (2-4 miles) even when 50% of miles are longer highway trips.

I have a 6MT sport and Ive been averaging about 24=25 mpg as well..I thought the car would have been a lilltle better on gas..Ive had the car for a lil over 3 weeks and Im on my third tank of gas..and Im only half full as we speak..I had a 2011 lx 5MT bfeore this car..it was soo much better on gas..my main focus is how many miles I get total out of a full tank..my 2011 gave me around 400 miles with a mixture of hwy and city driving..The sport gives me about 350 out of a full tank,,my gaslight comes on around 320 miles..Ive seen other postings of people claiming too get 500 miles out of a full tank..I DONt BELIEVE THAT!!..I personally believe its the bump in HP and the dual exhaust thats killing the mpgs in the 2013 as oppposed to the 2011..but whatever..overall,still a nice car(but the stereo ****s)
