8th Gen - Custom Subwoofer Box Questions

Does anyone have any experience with either of these sub boxes? If so, how is the sound quality? Does the box "trap" the sound in the trunk, thus making them not loud in the car? Also, please post any pics of these boxes installed. Thanks!

Yes, I have bought a similar style custom Accord box from SRQ. I compared that to the usual "cube" box. Same single subwoofer, same power, both sealed boxes. I would say that, yes, the box in the pics would "trap" bass in the trunk more. Perhaps it's because that large front baffle piece effectively acts as a solid seal between the trunk and the cabin. When I used the box, I can hear the abss come through into the cabin better at the same volume.

You cant really trap bass in the trunk. It will travel thru sheet metal with no problem so a little wooden baffle wont be a problem.

If you mount your subs in the front of the trunk but facing into the cabin, you wont get nearly as much output because sub bass waves are very long and need a lot of room to fully form and have their best output. Having them fire into the cabin from behind the back seat, there isnt enough room for the wave to form and so it wont be as loud as it should. Also, youll get some cancellation from the backwave bouncing off the back of the trunk and firing back into the cabin but not only out of phase with the front wave but also more fully formed since its been traveling longer and this will cause cancellation and youll loose more output. You can test this by facing the subs into the cabin and listen with the trunk open and then closed. With the trunk open, the back wave escapes and doesnt bounce back into the cabin and so youll have a lot more bass output with the trunk open.

These boxes are pretty awesome IMO. They blend very well with the contours of the trunk very nicely. Firing the subs to the rear like this are the best way. The front wave bounces off the back of the trunk and fires into the cabin and since it has more room to grow, you get the full effect and since the back wave is going right into the cabin, it doesnt have as much space to form and so the cancellation it will cause will be a whole lot less.

In fact, the more I look at these, the more I like them. $110 is a little stiff but its definitely a viable option for somebody like me that just loathes box building. The one from Custom Enclosures is the best looking one.

I picked up this one from zenclosures.com from Here. Here's a link to the post of my car with this custom box.

It sounds great, fits perfect and doesn't rattle. The boxes are all custom per order, and mine shipped out and arrived with in a week.

I'm thinking about picking up these as well, but I currently have amps mounted on my back seat. How much space is there from the back of the box to the back of the seat? (If you have 12 inch subs)

I have 10" x 2 subs, and the is less than an inch clearance.

my amp is located under the box, and with the appropriated sized amps you could fit two under it.

The best part about the box is the new room available in my trunk!

Contact the company, they were quick responding to my questions about space requirements.
