Air filter box lid crack

Hello,

I just bought a used Accord 03. While changing the air filter I realized I had to push it hard in order to lift it open. Sadly in doing so I have chipped off a small piece on the lid of the box that is next to the left fender. Should I get a new cover or will that be ok.

The part that got chipped off is at the side wall of the lid.

Please advise. Thanks

Duct tape for now it will be okay. And then get a short ram intake or cold air intake with a good filter when you feel like replacing it.

Thanks for the reply.
The crack is not actually at the top. It is at the side where the bottom and the top halves come together. I would say the seam area. Do you think it needs to be replaced?

I believe outside air comes from the bottom. If the bottom of the filter is exposed its okay. If the top part of the filter is exposed then its BAD, you can get foreign material pulled into your engine. You'll need to replace it
Snap a photo and put it on here. You'll get more responses.
V6 or 4cylinder?

Some people "crack" their intakes on purpose ( unscrewing the bolts and pulling the halves apart just a bit) to get maximum power from a stock intake. It's not life and death but you will want to tape it up for now.

hi thanks again. It is at the side of the top lid. I believe the projection in the bottom will cover the crack. But I will still duct tape. I will take the pictures and post them soon.

Wow I didn't know we had English police here. Not going to contribute anything useful but perform authoritarian tasks? Sheesh that's why I'll spend the rest of my day at V6performance.net

I have chipped off the same small piece of plastic trying to get the lid of the air box back onto the bottom. It has absolutely nothing to do with the function of the air box, and I wouldn't worry about it at all. I would not even bother with duct tape.

Closely examine the crack. If it goes above where the air filter seals, tape it up for now, and replace it as soon as possible. If the crack is just on the lip, and doesn't angle up over where the filter is, you'll be fine.

And there are options like Krazy glue, JB Weld and heated screwdrivers.

I cracked my air filter box cover around the "rim" where it meets up with the filter. I've been running like that for 100k with no ill effects.

It is tough to lift the cover. I love my 7th gen, but they made changing the air filter much more difficult than it was on the 6th gen. Not sure why that was necessary.
