An observation on Blackfire Crystal Seal

Glen asked me to post this so I will do so. Intentionally I did everything wrong with Blackfire Crystal Seal. I did NOT strip or machine polish the surface. I applied it on top of the many previous products I had put upon my car.

The surface was cleaned with Poorboy's Spray & Wipe then two coats of CS were applied one day apart on the hood. I was somewhat disappointed with the slickness of the product but the look was terrific. Now here is where you need to read a bit more.......first off the temperature was in the 40's to low 50's. It was raining so the humidity was 100% for several days.

I was still pleased with the shine but less than pleased with the feel......less slick than I thought it should be.

Fast forward to two days later when the humidity dropped to less than 30% and the temps came up to 50ºF +. I went out to the garage and noticed how bright the hoods looked on our cars. HMMMMM, I ran my finger across it and it was as slick as teflon snot! Wow, I didn't expect this.

The point of this comment is that even when you apply this product incorrectly in less than perfect conditions it still works if you give it a little more time. It may take a day or two longer to reach its maximum potential but it will do so. This is assuming the surface stays dry the entire time.

Just letting you folks know my take on the product used under the worst conditions. Use it correctly and you are bulletproof. RTexasF approves.

And I will reciprocate! R Texas wrote me and turned me on to a product he likes called Wet Glaze 2.0 sold by Thedetailshoppe.com. I did my trunk yesterday and like the old Bird, I did not clay or polish first, just some BF waterless cleaner to get it ready.

It is a toothpaste consistency and the label says it is a polymer so it's a wax on/wax off product, but you can take the product off right away so there is no dust or tiring buff.

I was very happy with the result. I would say it was the same gloss as my Crystal Seal after a day but the microfiber was a bit more slick in moving over the product. So I approve.

Based on my priority being EZ, I like the Crystal seal a bit ,more as I like the "walk away" part after I apply. But no doubt, this WG is good stuff.

Give it a day or two and then evaluate it again. I think you'll be surprised.

I love the Crystal Seal... I'm sure both you guys have followed my paint correction process, but here's a couple pictures for everyone.

The cs was easy to apply and the paint feels smoother than the glass...

WOW DK, what an absolute night and day difference. I'm going to be using it once the weather breaks here. On another note, looks like your windows are tinted? What % did you do?

Man that finish was absolutely hammered! Kudos to whoever compounded it. The best products on the planet would have done very little without that all important step.

Thanks! Yes, they're tinted. Georgia's law is 32% so they're tinted at 35% Edit: Also I have a 5% 8-10" strip on the windshield (it's not legal, but everyone's gotta live a little)

--- And yes! There is NO way this would have turned out as great if the surface wasn't compounded first. I couldn't get it all with my DA, so I took it to them.

Yes but Danase has been out of business for several years now. They bought the rights to the formula and improved it big time, hence the 2.0 designation. Awesome stuff. It doesn't wash off like a "regular" glaze and since it is acrylic it can be applied beneath or on top of waxes or sealants to improve the look.

I applied a second coat to the cars yesterday. The luster and slickness increased throughout the day, temps being in the 70's and very low humidity. My RAV4 Limited has an optional color called Blizzard White Pearl (which is very descript). I ran some errands later in the day and the pearl was simply stunning in the sun, in fact it was almost blinding without shades on. It also enhanced the color of her car which is a sand/champagne color, very deep and rich. One more coat today and that will do it, more than that will return little or nothing in my opinion so it's not worth it.

Having used Optimum and Ultima WOWA products prior to Blackfire Crystal Seal I positively prefer the Blackfire.

I took the plunge and ordered a bunch of Blackfire stuff. Hate to start all over again but all these accolades have convinced me.
