Is it time to trade in my Accord?

I have a 2007 Honda Accord LX with 140,000 miles on it. I'm trying to decide if I should bite the bullet and purchase a new one, or a Civic, or just keep it for a couple more years.

The details: I've replaced the timing belt and catalytic converter this year already. I've spent about $2500 in repairs/maintenance already. So is all the pricey maintenance behind me now for a while?

I recently got in a wreck and the body shop is currently replacing the front bumper, impact bumper (or whatever it's called) and doing some minor hood work (the airbag also needed to be replaced). So once I get it back, it'll look great.

What do you guys think? Basically, what are the chances that I have to spend another $2000 or so in the coming year on maintenance/repair?

Is it a V6? If so have you changed the atf often as in every 30k miles with honda fluid?

It's a 4-cylinder. I haven't been overly regular in the upkeep, but it's been serviced quite a bit recently. Fluid flushes and such.

Hmmm, the I4 doesn't have a timing belt like you mentioned earlier. What color is the atf when you pull the dipstick and wipe it on a paper towel?

I'm not sure what the color would be. I did just have it flushed in November.

Keep it till the end of this year and shop for a cert pre owned 2013, you should be ok on maint cost (I hope, nvr know) but 140k (just broke in ). Especially since you spent that much on maint already Once you drive a 2013 Accord and 2013 Civic I bet you wont think twice about buying the accord especially coming from the accord Plus, I bet and the end of 2013 you can get a cet pre owned accord (LX or EX or a sport) at a gr8 price

I4's don't require that much maintenance compared to a V6 because of the timing belt. I'm not sure how you replaced the belt when the k24 engine has a timing chain. Do you mean the serpentine belt? That's typically a $30 dollar belt and requires no more than an hour to change for the most inexperienced person.

Just make sure you do a 3X3 transmission fluid change and the car should basically last forever.

Do you live in a non rust belt area? Is your car clean, no rust?

If you were in WNY with an 07 Accord and only 140k and no rust, that'd be like a brand new car LOL. I'd keep it.

Thanks you guys. I think I'll hold onto it. As long as it feels okay coming out of the body shop.

I thought it was a timing belt, maybe it was a timing chain. It was pricey though. I remember them saying they were replacing it way ahead of time. But that was at 110k miles early this year.

What brand oil was used for the oil changes? Did a shop change the oil and at what intervals?

I'm not sure. I've always used firestone and about every 7500 miles.

Sounds like they ripped you off on that one... no need to change the timing chain unless there is a problem with it.

I have 142k miles on my 07 and I used it as a part time courier vehicle transporting film around the state of Florida... I used to do 600-800 mile round trips regularly. I would get in it right now and drive it across the country without thinking twice (and do it MANY times over). Mine is definitely a keeper.

I have driven both the 8th gen and even the 9th gen Accords, and although they are very nice, I STILL prefer my good 'ole 7th gen. Good luck with whatever you decide.

What are the chances you'll get in another wreck?

What are the chances you'll keep up with the cars regular (preventative) maintenance?
