08 LX CD Player Problem

Anybody having this problem? My CD Player keeps trying to load a CD when there is no CD present. It interrupts radio and AUX play. It's under warranty, however the dealers haven't been able to recreate the problem when I've brought it into them. I only have about 12000kms until my warranty is up, I really want to get this fixed before I have to pay out of pocket for it!

Anybody have thoughts?

Compressed air + straw (also known as computer duster / air in can) and blow the slot out. There's a switch somewhere in there that detects when a cd is inserted, so maybe putting some air pressure on it will get it to unstick.

You could also try leaving a cd in there to get it to stop trying to load. Doesn't fix the problem but bandages it.

I cannot say how Honda or your dealership specifically handles issues like this, but my previous car company and dealership advised me to have them look at it so it could be documented. That way if the problem returned and they were able to verify it, then it was covered outside of the warranty since they knew about the problem while the car was still under warranty. It is worth asking.

As for the compressed air, while that may work, you still want to be careful doing that so you are not adding to the problem by blowing dust into the laser lense assembly or knocking the lense out of alignment. Having not worked on a Honda CD system previously, I cannot say how they protected the laser lense assembly, but caution is usually advised for any lense assembly. Perhaps just loading/unloading a CD several times will help it work out the stuck switch. BTW, the switch will be near the opening.

Thumbs up

Good advice from Scott- he beat me to it. I see you are from Canada-- cold weather bring it on?

I did have the dealership look at it, and it is on a service invoice along with an oil change, so I do have documented record of the problem, at least.
