Steering Column Noise
What is a "soft" noise. Exactly? There was an issue with 8th gen columns but its a distinct click

Hard to explain. I guess a click would describe it.

If you think it's not normal, then I suggest you take it into a dealer and have them look at it. It's got a warranty. Use it. That's what it's for.

When cold mine will make a buzzing type vibration noise when backing out of my driveway turning the wheel almost to full lock either right or left

mine does the same. If I pull back on the back part of the horn area it goes way. Taking it to dealer asap

you have to warm up your car before you go anywhere.

I think I have the same soft clicking noise when turning the steering wheel, but I only notice it at parking lot speeds when turning sharply. It's almost too subtle to notice, which is probably why I didn't notice it until 1 month into my ownership. Will keep an ear on it, but at this point it isn't loud enough to really bother me.
No you don't. Just drive gently and it will warm up faster than just by idling. The buzzing noise is something else and it might be something loose in the airbag area. I don't have that noise, only the soft clicking noise.

I'm experiencing the same soft click/rattle noise when turning the steering wheel. Starts in at about a quarter turn either direction. Glad I'm not the only one. Will be brining it up tomorrow when I go in for an unrelated warranty issue.

So how about an update? It would be nice if people bothered to report the resolution to the problems they bring up.

Nothing untoward. You might hear a soft "whir" or "grind" from the airbag clockspring going in-and-out, but that's normal, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, might be more noticeable because there's no noises associated with a hydraulic steering system.

It does sound like some spring turning, and I wonder if it's more audible on these cars because there isn't the usual "dragging" noise that for example Toyotas have when turning the wheel (but those have electric PS as well).

Could also be a loose screw either inside the SW or on the SW trim.

I noticed it from day one. usually when I am backing out of a parking spot. sounds like a spring or whatever is inside the wheel that helps it turn.. maybe a gear? I don't think its a major issue if we all are hearing it.
