Dude, Wrong Car!

So I went to the grocery store this morning. When I came back out, I'm walking to my car and saw some old guy standing beside my car staring at it. At first I'm like, "WTH is this man doing?" Then it hits me as I see him pressing the buttons on his key fob. He's trying to get my car to unlock because he thinks it's his. I walk up beside him and say with a smile, "Wrong car." He seems a bit confused when I say this and doesn't quite get it at first so I repeat again with a smile, "You have the wrong car." I then press the unlock button on my key fob and the car unlocks. He seems relieved when this happens as it seems he must have been standing there for a little while. He still doesn't get it. I'm not the happy locksmith descended down on the parking lot to help him get into his car but he seems to think I just figured out how to get his car opened for him. He proceeds to open the door to get in. I repeat a little more sternly, "Wrong car." And now I'm thinking this dude may be a little off and he's going to possibly make a scene, screaming for help or something because somebody is trying to take his car from him. My concern deepens as I hear him utter a quiet, "No." I have been scanning the parking lot for another Accord that looks like mine that would obviously be the one that belongs to him. I don't see one. Oh great, I got myself a situation on my hands. To my relief, he finally takes a look at my car's interior and it hits him. Oh, I have the wrong car. I laugh it off and tell him it's okay because I'm thinking how embarrassed I would be if the roles were reversed. He makes a rather hasty apology and goes off in search of his car. By now I am curious so I watch him as he goes. He gets to his car. And it's a red, late model Toyota Corolla! Other than the color it looks nothing like my car. Poor old guy. He must have gotten to the age where he's easily disoriented. I hope it's safe for him to drive. He appeared to be in his late 60's to early 70's. I know some people in that age range who are as sharp as ever but some aren't and show signs of deteriorating mental capabilities. Hope he's okay.

I've actually opened the door to another car that looked exactly like mine years ago. Luckily the owner was nowhere around and I quickly realized my mistake. Have you ever caught somebody mistaking your car for their own?

Yes, about a month ago. An older couple and he was standing at my door with his key fob. But the lady kept walking to the correct car which was about 3-4 spaces further down. He stood there smiling as I'm telling him, wrong car at least twice. He had his mit on the door handle but didn't open it since it was still locked. The car was identical to mine though, 05-06 Silver Matrix XR. So can't blame him that much.

I had this happen twice. They both own sedans but mine was a coupe. Very strange.

First one was an old lady trying to put her key in my drivers door. After I walked up on her at Home Depot, she yelled that she was stealing my car and said HA! and just walked away. Crazy woman. She ended up going into her white 4 Door Toyota Camry.

Second was a raining day and I went inside to pick up a pizza. Came out, some teen was at my drivers door. I thought he was trying to steal my car and I yelled WT--F are you doing? I was going to clobber him but he apologized and said it was the wrong car. He did find his sedan a few spots away

LOL@ the old lady. Old people must have problems identifying cars often.

When my sister & I were young, my mom used to drive an old Nissan Stanza (SUV / Minivan all-in-one) - it was a hideous thing that we have never seen one other person on this earth have. Well, we come out of the grocery store and get in. She keeps trying to start it, but the key won't fit the ignition. She's stumped. Finally, it dawns on her that someone had the exact same ugly SUV, exact same color, etc. when my sister asks "Mommy...why's there a car seat back here?" LOL She was like "Oh sh1t! Get out kids! This isn't our car"

LOL (P.S. that isn't ours but just a Google pic of one)

My wife was walking right towards a Lexus LS460 and was standing at the passenger door, waiting patiently for me to open it for her. I walked around to her door at my car, parked next to the LS. Bewildered she asks, "isn't this your car?" "No babe, I reply, and she looks at the car and says "OH!, well, it looks just like yours!"
Flattering, yes, but at the same time, I have found myself thinking the same thing, I never could point out why I liked the LS so much, but now that I think about it, it looks a lot like mine! Not in every aspect mind-you, but has reminiscent looks to my car. When they're black they look similar.

Like I said they're not EXACTLY, but I can see where the similarities can be confused.

Oddly enough... I come out to my car last night and some older guy is tugging on my trunk trying to open it by hitting the button on his fob then pulling on the trunk. I come up to him and say "I think you have the wrong car, eh?". He said "what... oh yeah sorry". So I get into mine and then see him get into a silver Cobalt sedan. I'm thinking to myself, really.... this confused?

There's people like this, then there's my grandfather who is 86, can still drive 100%, tows a 30' travel trailer and is as sharp as a tack.

Yea...Accord VS Cobalt is quite a difference. It's like beauty vs. ugliness I agree though, my gram is 89 and still gardens, rakes, cooks huge holiday meals (used to be a chef) and although she has her little moments (calling my dog Mack instead of Max lol) she is still living strong!

My GF does it a lot. She walks over to other people's cars and stands there waiting for me to hit the unlock. It's gotten to the point where I'll just walk to my car, get in then wait for her to figure it out. Cracks us up every time.

Some people are clueless at the differences between cars. All it takes is a basic similarity (sedan, 4 wheels and same color) no matter the brand. I'll play the "what's that?" game with her now and then, trying to get her to identify make and model.

What's that, babe?... "Umm, a Land Rover?"... Nope, it's Jeep Cherokee.. LOL
