Sub Bass Output Solved: Change Source
I figued this solution required a new thread since I listed the problem with a headline, I think the solution deserves a headline and not just a post.
In the initial complaint thread about no bass output, fw fw asked about the music source. I always use Bluetooth for music. I tried hooking up the iphone to the USB port and the sound is 100% improved. POW! the bass thumps deep and rich and music is much fuller. Still not a great system by any means but it is no longer disappointing as I once thought. FM stinks, XM ,Pandora are barely adequate as is Bluetooth, and the USB is actually quite good. I can say for sure that my sub is working and thumps appropriately.

Sub Bass Output Solved: Change Source
Kinda reminds me of when my folks first made the jump from CRT TVs to digital flat screens while still watching the same old analog broadcast. Their reaction: "it looked better on the old set."
Quality of the source signal makes all the difference in the world. Sent from AutoGuide.com Free App

Yep. I just popped an MP3 disc in and it is even better than USB (I think). I really like the audio now. Very, very good unit. I burn my MP3 as a data disc and I can scroll folders with the upper arrows on the touch screen and songs within folders with the lower arrows. Non data DVD may do the same. The only reason I did data was because the 300C would not list folders with music but would list folders with a data disc so all of my MP3s are data. I no longer burn MP3s but the sound quality is so good I may have to rethink that. The USB is about as good as the MP3 disc so that is a much easier option.
I picked up a new George Benson Breezin DVD-Audio disc about 15 years ago for $3 at a used CD store. It would not play in the Accord (I did not expect it to): "Check Disc" popped up and it puked it out. DVD-A was going to be the next big thing (the TL plays them and when I test drove the TL in 04 (I got the 300C) I brought my DVD-A along to see what it was all about. The difference is huge. The best way is understand is to play a CD in your home theater and then play a DVD-the music score on the DVD using THX or Dolby sounds 10X better. I was told CD is 2 channel and DVD-A is 6 channels (whatever that means). The proof is in the pudding, not in the recipe and DVD music scores in movies played on home theater sound way better than CDs played on the same stereo.

I love the DVD-A in my TL. The demo disc that came with the car plays a Doobie Bros. song in CD quality then sequentially in DVD-A. The difference is amazing.
Wish the format had stuck. It is superior to anything I've listened to.

For all the music that we have physical media is just not very efficient, it may still sound better but with low compression digital audio so common, the difference is not so obvious as compared with digital video media vs blu-ray for example.

I had a Sony Mini Disc that flopped too. Never had a Betamax though. Sony finally got a win with Blu Ray. An intersting sidebar: Blue ray won based on Blu Ray player sales over HD-DVD sales. Interestingly, every PS-3 sold was also a Blu Ray player so they were counted as Blu Ray Sales securing the win for Sony.

I'm coming from a 2011 V6 Coupe with Navi to a 2013 V6 Coupe without Navi. The audio is simply anemic compared to the 2011. It is quite disappointing to me. In the 2011 I could get the speakers to distort if I had bass and sub both at +6. I'm wondering if Honda isn't limiting it more now as changing those values doesn't appear to make a lick of difference. I don't know about anyone else but -6 to +6 on the sub sounds no different to me.
I do know what you're talking about that sound is definitely richer from AM<FM<XM<BlueTooth<USB<CD but I don't think that is really what is at play here (for me at least). I listened to XM almost exclusively in my 2011 and when I first turned it on in my 2013 I thought some of my speakers must not be outputting. That's how drastic the difference felt. I've started getting used to it but even putting in a CD doesn't change the output enough to bring it closer to the 2011. I don't want to shake the neighborhood and I know stock systems aren't going to blow my socks off but I'd still like a little bit of a thump to go with my rock. I'll mess with a few more tracks and CD's tomorrow and see if I can get any different results. I'll rip an MP3 cd too since it sounds like you had good success with that. |

^^^How deceptive without a good 2011 for comparison. The difference between BT and MP3 is staggering and I can only imagine how much better a 2011 is.
I have not played with sub settings with my new found MP3 fidelity but as stated with BT changing the sub setting did nothing which makes no sense other than the signal may be simply cut off. I am going to check sub settings tomorrow with MP3 just to see what it does. IIRC my sub settings go from 0 to 6, I don't think I have a -6 or any - settings, I'll check again tomorrow.

I didn't notice any difference between USB and BT audio but now I'm curious. Going to check this more carefully in my car. If this turns out to be true, I'm really going to miss the convenience of BT and just turning on the car and the audio automatically playing

Remember, it's not just "USB" but a song burned at a high rate thru USB...like 128... or really even above that. Most people will find the true best source you can use is a audio CD....
IMO, it's not that USB is so good, but the others are that bad....
