Check Your Tire Pressure... check after delivery everyone
I measured my tire pressure in preparation for tomorrow's road trip to Canada. Specs recommend 33 all around. Mine measured 30-30-28-28. Of course the TPMS did not signal.
Check your oil level to make sure it is not low like the tires. Since we don't have a digital dash read out like many luxury cars (and the Altima) you'll need to check tire pressure monthly manually. You can not depend on the rather rudimentary TPMS that Honda uses. It works well if there is a moderate to significant difference of rotation of a wheel that has lost pressure but it can't tell you how much or which wheel has the low pressure. If all 4 wheels lose pressure evenly, it will remain silent. As I understand, you'll need to lose several pounds perhaps as many as 10 psi before the system will detect it. I am going out forthwith to gas up for the morrow and I am going to drop pressure to 28 in 1 tire to see what happens and to 23 if nothing lights up at 28. Will holla back soon. |

Dropped the PSI to 28 in the right front wheel and the TPMS did not come on.
Gassed up ad dropped to 26 and nothing going about 1/2 mile to Wendys. Dropped to 24 and nothing for about a mile and I was about to pull over and drop again and finally, the slow to react TPMS came on at 24 PSI. It took a full mile before it activated. It may have activated at 26 had I driven further than 1/4 mile. I'd say the system is crude at best and meets the letter of the law and is probably adequate but IMO could never be relied upon for high speed driving. I used to do 110-130 mph routinely in my 300E on road trips (II Kings 9:20) without TPMS but that was 20 years ago (the 1984 Corvette in the was the first car with TMPS). |

before road trip you can raise tire pressure to let say 40 front 38 back. Primacy rated at 44 PSI cold, so you still will be well withing specs but higher PSI will improve high speed stability and average MPG.

Tire Pressure...check after delivery everyone
Thought I would create a new thread for newcomers or those just taking delivery of their new 9th gen Accord. First thing to do would be to check the tire pressure. Mine were all between 38-42 psi. I set them down to spec of 33 psi per the door jamb sticker and much better ride. If you catch this thread prior to delivery, have your salesperson check the pressure before you leave.

x2...mine were above 40 when delivered, but I told them I would do the Pre deliv myself so they are off the hook....
nevertheless, off the truck , they are all above 40 to tie down better... a Continental tire engineer told me 6 years ago to run 1-2 more than the sill for any brand - you won't feel it and tread lasts longer....

This is a good thread. I have a coworker who owns an Acura. He took it in to a local shop to get a set of tires. when he got the car back he just drove about 3 blocks to work and didn't notice anything.
But when he went to drive home, the car handled funny. He stopped in a gas station - he has about a 40 mile commute - and discovered that two of his new tires were over 40 psi! Once he fixed the problem the car handled fine. |

Make sure to check all the storage compartments in your old car before unloading it. I donated my favourite sunglasses to the dealer in my last trade in by mistake.

Always
I keep $20 as emergency spare change in the owner's manual, don't forget to grab it before trading in.

Checked all mine on Sat. since the tpms light came on. All tires are at 33 psi but the light is still on.
Any ideas before I unplug the batt.?

Reset the TPMS sensors first to see if it does it again.

Also coolant! Easy to check in this day and age with the reservoir. Years ago, my cousin bought her first new car (a Pontiac Astre... her first mistake). Living about 15 miles away from the dealer, she was driving home by freeway when she got a warning light about the engine overheating. Yes, they left the radiator bone dry. And with those early aluminum block engines (no cast iron sleeves), overheating them was almost certainly a death sentence. The dealer denied responsibility and after some haggling, she got some money back. The car still ran but she got rid of it really quickly.
Back to the Accord, all of the levels, pressures, etc. were right on when I picked up mine. I trust the service dept at my dealership, but I still checked. One mechanic having a bad day and it could be disaster.
