EX-L v6 Oil Consumption

So I checked the oil in the Accord today and w/ 1300 miles on it the dipstick is showing I need to add oil. Has anyone else experienced oil consumption like this?

Sorry I meant consumption with the 2013 V6. I did see a bunch elsewhere online for previous generation engines

Read it anyway. You might either have a lemon or your accord uses oil but Honda gets to determine what acceptable level of oil usage is. So read it anyway...

Did you check the oil level when you first got the car? If not, maybe it was low to begin with.

Yep, checked after I purchased the car and then again around 700 miles and the level was at the full mark.

This could be VCM related

I asked the question a few weeks ago but no one responded. http://www.driveaccord.net/forums/sh...ad.php?t=79794

Keep track of the oil consumption and let them know. I think 1 qt per 1200 miles is within the spec although not a good deal for you. Odyssey had oil consumption related to VCM equipped models. Do not change the factory oil until you hit 5-10% on your V-6. I heard via Odyclub.com that oil consumption was minimal after the first oil change. They change the piston rings around 2012 V6 because of oil consumption.

I have 3,000 miles on my 13 Accord V6 and the oil is still almost to the top of the full / add area on the dip stick, probably at about 90% full in the full add area on the dipstick. Check your oil in the morning before you start the engine and you'll notice about half a quart more oil in the moring than if you check it just 1 or 2 minutes after you shut the engine off. Best to check in the morning because checking just one or two minutes after shuting off engine can lead to overfilling which is not good for your engine.

I have 3600 miles on my accord and I am down half a quart. I'm going to stop by the dealer and have them check it. I think its within spec though.

How do you know it is a 1/2 qt low? Did you add some oil? If you change your oil every 3000 miles like some oil freak, you would never notice any consumption.

So are the 2013's experiencing this as well? what crap. From what i read, the oil issues are caused by the use of VCM. The accord does not have VCM? It has an econ button so that eco mode is entered into manually and voluntarily. Is that not right?

I have noticed that my 2013 V6 is very sensitive to how level the car is when checking the oil. The oil pan is fairly flat and shallow so this is not surprising. I use a very flat and level place to check my oil. My car was perfectly filled when new. At 3500 miles the oil was at half way in the cross hatched area. Now at 5100 miles it has used only the slightest bit more oil so I'm happy with the oil use rate on this car.

With the oil at this half way point, I notice that if checked at a gas station, the level can easily read below the add mark if the car is at all leaned to the left and/or nose high. I wonder how many "oil consumption" problems are due to errors in checking the oil level correctly.

Absolutely. I can see .5 qt diff just from crown of the road.

I checked the oil after it had been sitting for two days. I wont be driving the accord for a few days so I will top it off after its been sitting for a while.
