Frame Member compartment

Anyone pull up the passenger carpet and notice the plastic cover on the floor labeled Frame Member? Pulled the cover off and it's like a 2" deep secret compartment. Could hide stuff there in a pinch I suppose, maybe even the wheel lock, figuring thieves probably wouldn't know about it and wouldn't find it if hidden there. Anyway, just curious, is this just an inspection point, or do/did they use it for something? Just found it a bit odd.

Put something there and drive around and see if it doesn't go somewhere you can't reach since you dont know how long it is

Noticed this compartment couple of weeks ago, couldn't find anyting on internet, or manual of course. Not very elegant either, sure means you need a removeable carpet.

It's in the manual. I think it covers a vin or something. I can't really remember now.

The compartment wasn't designed to look nice. It has your chassis vin number so when a car is totaled or whether it is they will know by that number. I seen tons of scams where they replace every vin and make it hard to determine what really happened to the car. This is going to be a requirement or maybe it already is. My friends 13 Hyundai veloster has the same compartment.

Yeah, I forgot to mention it had the VIN stamped on the rail in big bold letters. I figure anything that's put in their for safe keeping would need to be mounted with a zip tie since it wasn't intended for storage.

Just stumbled upon the same "hidden compartment" when I saw installing my WeatherTech floormats. Opened it up and thought the same thing as Pilm1112, a place to hide your wheel lock. Probably need to add some padding around the wheel lock to stop it from making noise with every turn and start/stop.

Re: Frame Member compartment

It's a unique spot for a vin, they're trying to make it hard on scamers.Don't know if anyone actually knew this but theirs over 100 spots where the vin is placed in our cars. And doesn't have to be the whole 17, ot can be partial that's coded
