Hey HondaDriver1 - I just wanted to say thanks for chasing this the way you have. I too have had this problem since upgrading to iOS 14 on my iPhone 11 Pro, and the problem has continued on my new iPhone 12 Pro. It's infuriating and I hate it, but I really didn't have the time to jump through the hoops with Apple support the way you have. Your efforts are greatly appreciated!!

If there's an email address I can write to to quickly notify them I have the same problem, let me know.

In the meantime, I'm going to do as FreeWoRLD suggested and buy the cheapest and nastiest Android I can find at the supermarket, and just use Android Auto till the problem is fixed.

I had the same issues as everyone else & went the route of buying a cheap Motorola Android phone to use Android Auto. I still bring my iPhone with me, and use its hotspot to connect my android device to the internet.

The upper infotainment display now shows navigation instructions, using Google Maps. Never noticed that before using Apple CarPlay with Google Maps. It will show distance to turn, direction of the turn etc. as if I was using onboard navigation.

I can connect my iPhone, start playing music via Bluetooth as I use Apple Music. Then I connect my Motorola, and launch android auto for Waze. I am still playing music, and going through tracks on my iPhone with Bluetooth. But the phone directory is being pulled from the Motorola device. If I try to disconnect Bluetooth from the Motorola to my iPhone I lose Android Auto.

Anyone know how I can have the Motorola connected through android auto but make calls with my iPhone through the car? Seems odd I can use Bluetooth to play music through my iPhone but can’t make calls.

I faced the same exact issue. I thought I’d be able to keep my iPhone connected to Bluetooth so I can receive calls while car unit uses Android Auto. Unfortunately, it seems AA requires Bluetooth and as soon as it’s disconnected AA stops working. I started using Apple Music on android but I cannot use the car’s stereo for phone calls on my iPhone now. Not a huge deal for me as I don’t do much talking but music and navigation was important and those two are ok now.

I have the same issue - 2017 Touring - iPhone XS - system glitches alllllll the time. It seems like any time I try to make a call using the button on the steering wheel, my screen will freeze shortly after. I can't make a call, can't voice text, can't change the source option, can't change songs, and the screen looks all jacked up. I saw on another forum that when it happens you can "Press and hold the audio system power button for 3 seconds. Then a menu will pop up and ask you if you want to reboot the system." but I haven't tried it yet. I just saw it right before I found this thread. I will say that this happened since I bought the car brand new in 2017. I had an iPhone 6 and the same issues happened with that phone as they do now with my XS.

I called Apple today about this issue. My 2017 with 11 Pro would randomly reboot the carplay app and resume where it left off, you know not perfect and a small inconvenience. Since iOS 14.4 its been freezing the whole radio or crashing then displaying no device detected. I explained there are many complaints here about this issue. The rep said they are escalating the issue to a senior advisor. We shall see where this goes.

2017 Touring Coupe. Same issues with Apple Car Play. I use an iPhone 7 with the latest iOS. Glitchy is a reasonable description.
1/4 of the time it won’t recognize the phone is plugged in at start up, but will after unplugging and plugging a time or two. It will drop calls occasionally by just shutting ACP down. Most recently it did that, the upper and lower screens went blank. Had to turn the car off and start it again while I help the head unit power button off. Cycled that a time or two and got it to boot again. Not sure if that’s ACP or Honda’s issue.

Siri voice control will just not activate occasionally. Some time Siri will glitch sending a voice to text or playing back a text or VM even though cell service is fine.

It’s nice when ACP works and I generally always have it on (probably actually using phone, voice to text or navigation 50% of the time on my multi hour road trips, which are about once a week) but I’d say there’s about a 95% success rate, which isn’t too good in the software world.

I don't really have any issues with my Android setup. Occasionally after a phone call I only get sound from my left tweeter. I just pause the music and hit play to fix it. This is making me think twice about switching from my Pixel to iphone

I purchased a cheap Android A10 because I couldn't take the Apple Auto issue anymore. I used Andriod Auto today and it froze after an hour similar to how Apple Carplay freezes. It is a sample of 1, but so far I am disappointed.

I wonder if there's a difference between the models? That's interesting.

Edit: what apps do you use? I probably stick with spotify, youtube music and Google maps

Hi. I have been facing the same issues as you guys have. But I have noticed that if the phone (my phone —> iPhone 11Pro) is close to fully charge the player doesn’t not crash. I can’t really tell exactly what the percentage of the battery is when I’m driving but generally when the phone is close to fully charge the crashing seems to disappear. Anybody else can concur this?

Mine seems to crash when using maps. Since changing to an anker cable it has helped some..... I think. Waiting for Apple to fix this with an update.....I hope.

I almost always have my phone at 100%. Today it crashed right after I set my destination and then went to SiriusXM to play a station. For me it seems to be music and maps together.

Did anyone get an update from Apple? I just emailed because I haven't heard back after sending logs. They basically said that they didn't see anything wrong and to contact your car manufacturer :/

I called Honda and i'm waiting for a 2nd tier support rep to call me back. Hopefully this gets somewhere....i'll keep you all updated.

So I finally got fed up enough after another freeze and crash last week to get in touch with Apple and report the problem. Same story as everyone else here; the case went to a "senior advisor", who told me they'd be escalating to the software engineering team, then they got me to install the CarPlay and IAP diagnostic profiles and send off the logs on the next crash. I said "no worries, it'll probably be by tomorrow."

I've been on three road trips since then and it hasn't crashed once. So annoying! I know Apple haven't issued any updates since the last crash and nothing has really changed on my end. Feels like the fates are just messing with me.

Wow, at least something works! Ask for a case number and if I can contribute to this "research" I will! This is such an annoying problem...

Hey everyone, if you are still having this issue please call Honda. I had the 2nd tier customer support rep call me back and he explained this isn't a wide spread issue (there hasn't been much calls on this issue) and suggested I take it to a dealer if the regular troubleshooting doesn't work (it doesn't).

Update 4/22
I called Honda to update my case - After removing all Carplay IDs, factory resetting and having the latest update on my iPhone 11 Pro, Carplay is still not stable.
The rep stated that they just do basic troubleshooting and to take it to a dealer. I explained I recently used my phone on a newer Jeep (rental) and had zero issues on vacation (it was very surprising, not 1 crash) also this is a known issue online. The rep again suggested having users call Honda and after a certain number of cases open on a similar issue it forms a recall.

Again please call Honda, this is not an Apple issue on our side.
