2013 EX head unit freezing. Can I reset unit WITHOUT turning car off and on again?

I have a 2013 EX that I use with my iphone to stream pandora via usb.

On occasion, while using pandora the entire system will freeze up. I can change between sources but nothing comes up on the screen and the no audio plays.

Turning the car off and on again will resolve the problem.

Is there anyway to reset the head unit WITHOUT turning the car off and on again?

What does the manual say? (not trying to be a smartass but I don't have this year car and my audio system is different). You can download the manual / owners guide for free if you don't have a book.

BTW - I would not work around this but would rather go to the dealer and see if there is an update for the system; the unit should not lock up like that and based on this, it should be compatible with pretty much every iPhone out there:

Find the iPhone, Blackberry, Samsung to Connect to Your Honda

There might be an update for it, even though they might charge you for it, it is likely worth it in frustration-free life (assuming it solves the problem).

I am the original owner and have (and read) the book. There is no mention on how to reset the system.

I imagine it would be a "secret" combination of keys to press on the HU. I tried holding down the power button but that didn't help.

This happens infrequently but when it does its a huge PITA. It occurred this week for the first time in a year. This time it happened on the highway in heavy traffic on a long trip so I had to find a safe place to pull over and restart the car.

In my experience with the dealer, unless they can replicate or its a known issue (TSB's) they won't do anything.

Do you know there is not a TSB on this? I don't know either way. The way to approach this is not to expect them to do you any favors: you are simply there to get updated software, and will pay for it. They will look to see if there is an update (unless you have access to Honda Techinfo site and have already looked and found no updates exist.)

Finally someone with the exact issue as me.
The dealer wont do anything. I tried, what I've been able to do is narrow down to when this occurs.
Seems when my phone is out of cellular service, while Pandora plays it locks up the radio.
Only turning the car off/on restores the functionality.

My solution, im just going to get a Kenwood DNX radio and that pac device to retain my upper display.
Other than that the dealership has been no help...since theyve said " there's no update available"

So the only fix, stay within a cellular coverage zone. At least in my case.

Usually when this happens I am changing stations or trying to get pandora to connect.

When it happened this week, I was in the middle of song when it cut out. I was on the highway in an area that would have no cellular issues.

I couldn't reproduce this if I tried.

My system was updated to add siri eyes free back in 2014 so the firmware should be current.

My gut feeling is that it is an issue with Pandora running on my iphone.

BTW its a 6S.

Rule out the radio software by getting the latest update from Honda. (You may have to pay for the update)

Make sure you have the latest iOS on your phone.

Perhaps it's time to upgrade that 6S. You know the X is out now? I have no issues using an XR.

IMO, if the head unit locks up / freezes, this is not a phone issue because no matter what the phone does (or does not do) the HU should not freeze / lock up.

I am guessing that the problem does not reproduce when on bluetooth vs. plugged in?

When im connected via bluetooth and I lose cell service, pandora goes into offline mode and continues playing as intended.

This happened with my iPhones, 5, 6s, 7, X, XR, and now my XS Max.

I believe its not specific to my phones or ios's.
Havent tried it on an android device though.


However, im just going to focus on upgrading the headunit to something more current with built-in Navi and carplay.
Been to many times im in the mountains with no cell service and WAZE just wont work for me.
