Tried searching but couldn't find an answer...

I am contemplating on buying another Honda 07 AT SE
BUT don't know which engine...
V6 or the 4 cylinder one.

I've heard that the 4 cylinder one is better built and last longer but have no proof to back up this claim...

The price offered for the V6 is 20770 OTD dealer quote... and for the V4 is probably 1500 dollars less....

Some other questions...
Do you guys with the V6 really feel a big power difference vs. the V4?
Which engine is more reliable in the long run or are they about the same?

Thanks ahead for your replies...

I'm very happy with my 2.4-liter. It's very peppy, gets great mileage, and has no timing belt to change. I'm at 70,000 miles and have had no mechanical issues. I'd say the V6 is a bit more refined and, obviously, significantly more powerful. But the 2.4 won't leave you wanting more, either.

They're both great engines, and the transmission issues have been ironed out. Don't buy one or the other based on reliability--buy based on maintenance costs, fuel costs, and the fun factor.

Good luck!

Simple. V6.

Power, responsiveness, and safety (yeah safety, when that instantaneous power is there to get you around or out of a sticky situation, it is really appreciated! ) are givens for the six.

For us, it's simple... the Accord V6, and imported V6s in general are pure refinement. Do you want to feel like you're driving a high-end car, or one that is adequate?

The V6 is buttery smoooooth and will stay that way (better balanced than a four, fours typically roughen up over time, which in turn makes the car feel junky as it ages). The six is super quiet. And remember, a six spins alot slower than a four, so there is quite a bit less stress put on a six over a four (engine will live a long life).

The V6 in this Accord elevates the car to Acura/Lexus/Infiniti levels of goodness. The four makes the Accord feel more like a grownup Civic.

For us, the extra money is well spent. I am not bothered by the somewhat higher costs (t-belt, mpg), but if you're a penny pincher or barely able to afford an Accord at all, then a four will suit you better.

1500 bucks...go for the V6. That is simple to me. Reliability problems are neglegable and the V6 is the bread and butter of the 7th gen Accord.

The biggest single factor in my decision to go with a V6 was this: for 2007 models all V6 trims (and ONLY V6 trims) come with Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA), which includes both traction control and stability control.

Additional benefits for the V6 trim include brake assist (helps with braking in a panic stop) and 17 inch wheels.

Consumer Reports testing determined that there is only a 1 mpg difference in mileage between the 4 and V6 in mixed driving.

Same for me too. The bigger (and nicer) wheels, extra power, VSA assist, and also dual exhaust did it for me. My previous car was a 1991 Accord 4cyl, so the jump to V6 was dramatic. The engine is a beautiful piece of machinery. I was very surprised Honda was able to pump 244 hp out of a 3.0L without any compromise in mpg.

Yeah right!! :lmao:

Everyone I know with a V-6 overstates their mileage, everyone........

Oh, there's a compromise in mpg at play here. It just depends on how much power you are trying to extract from the engine when measuring mpg.

28-32 everday driving in the TL. I'd swear on that with my life. That's what I got in that car.

Highway was always higher.

the 4-cylinder engine will definitely be cheaper with maintenance since there is no timing belt to replace and it gets better gas mileage than the v6.

the v6, however, has lots of power for everyday driving. the fuel economy is worse in city driving, but both engines highway mileage are pretty much the same. if you drive in the city mostly, the 4 cylinder would have been my personal choice just for the better fuel economy. since i drive about 70% city/30% highway in a suburban environment, i chose the v6 for the better low-end torque and top end power for highway driving. i personally can achieve close to 28 mpg with my car if if drive conservatively with mixed driving. i can also achieve mid-30's mpg on the highway, which is better than what the EPA rates for the 4-cylinder accord. thats driving conservatively of course.

i know the maintenance will be more for my car, but i dont mind since i have that extra pep in my step whenever i need it. with spirited driving, i still can achieve 25 mpg, which is damn good considering its a v6. the engine note on the v6 is like no other when pushed past 4,000 rpm. it really is an excellent engine. great gas mileage and performance are achievable with both engines.

How about taking both for a test drive? The AT on the 4cyl is smoother. Weight distribution and so steering control and handling on the 4cyl is better too.

Having owned both, if you can afford the V6 go for it. The 4cyl is very good but the V6 is much smoother, quieter, and more responsive.

Drive both of them back to back and you'll see what I'm talking about.

Go for V6 Tokki

Tockki,

AccordEXLV6's reply is most comprehensive. I am currently having 3 Honda Accord V6 EX and 1 I4 EX at home. I am going to buy another '08 V6 EX-L w/ Navi soon. The V6 engine is smoother, quieter, lasts longer, revs less, more responsive, much more horse power, accelerates much faster, etc. You should test drive both I4 and V6 and will see the difference immediately and will never go back to I4. MPG difference is not much. $1,500 difference is insignificant. Good luck and enjoy your brand new V6.
