Noise when going from a stop

When I take off from a stop i can hear a noise but not all the time. I would compare it to if you knocked coconuts together or maybe a horse hoof walking on pavement. I know that sounds strange but that is the exact sound. It seems like my defroster is on most of the time when it does it but I’m not sure. Any ideas?

Does it sound like it is coming from your brake pedal?

Doesnít sound like the brakes. Happens when accelerating from a stop at low speed but not all the time

I have a video that you can upload where you canít hear it but I donít know how to upload it

I know exactly what you are referring to. Depending on the speed the frequency of the knock also changes. I have brought my car back to the dealship two times and wasted so much time and they couldn't reproduce the problem. At the end i just gave up. 2.0T accord.

Is it possibly an ABS-system check? Some cars do a check of the ABS system upon their first acceleration from rest after starting the car. It can sound like a quick "thunk" or clunk sound - just one time, and only at the first moving away from rest (in drive, not reverse). You don't sense it in the brake pedal, though....

I'm glad you mentioned this, as I have noticed this the last several times after starting out after backing out of driveway and wasn't sure if I had a potential issue.

Mine is not when braking ever. I managed to record the sound with my phone one morning. It hasn’t done it in about a week, but now I have a new whistle coming from the drivers side view mirror but to stay on topic. If I were to throw out a guess I would say it was something involving the drive shaft. It can’t be felt in either pedal. If anyone does figure out what it is I would love to knw

I know EXACTLY what you're talking about as well. You described it very well. Have the same issue, and also have recordings/video. I took it into the dealer today, they are keeping overnight as they were not able to duplicate the noise. So frustrating, $30k car that is all of 2 months old...

I don't have much to back it up, but it could be the CV axle/joint. Does it make the sound when turning the wheel?

No, not in my case. It occurs as the OP describes, when pulling away from a stop, but not all the time. A hollow knocking type sound that sounds like it's coming from the dashboard area.

My 2018 1.5l EXL makes this noise. I had my dealer check it out. They say they heard the noise, but did not know what it is. They said it was probably normal, but that I should monitor it.

Update on my dealer trip. They had my car for two days, had 3 different people road test it, advised they could not hear or duplicate the noise. Advised they also called Honda whom advised not a known issue, no SBs on. Of course the next day, I heard the noise readily, 6 blocks into my morning commute, and have heard multiple times since then...

I have bought 10 Hondas over the last 25+ years, with this 2018 EXL 2.0t being my 7th Accord. Absolutely loved the car until this very annoying issue arose. So frustrating, so disappointed.

I am getting the same noise, from a stop. It always sounds like I can open the cover where the wireless charger is and I'll see something. I hope someone will figure this out.

That's Honda's new motto when it comes to legitimate concern that their customers bring forth in an effort to find remedy, "It's totally normal" lol
I laugh because they do it to me too. I had a problem with my seat making a weird popping noise when sitting on it and they service manager had the audacity to say "that's the way the seat was engineered" so my reply was, "the seat was engineered to make popping noises?????" lol. And I still have this ongoing battle with Honda regarding my brakes.
