Keep "Automatic" headlights from turning on the high beams? Owner's manual!!!!!

I've been using the "AUTO" setting for the headlights on my 2019 Accord Hybrid. They are very nice to have, except occasionally they turn on the high beams. They usually do that when there are no cars in front of me, which is OK, But then if/when someone comes around a corner ahead and come my way, the car doesn't dim the headlights to normal for a few seconds. So the car that just came around the corner gets a full dose of my highbeams, and then my car puts them down to norm AFTER blinding the car in front of me.

Is there a way to tell it, "Sure, go ahead and turn the headlights on or off when you think they are appropriate... except never turn on the high beams unless I hit the high beam control lever" ?

Pull on the lever towards you. This changes them from automatic brights to manual brights. Then you'd just have to push the lever away from you to turn on the brights similar to older models.

On pp 197-199 of the owner's manual there's a description of how that system works.

Disable it by pulling towards your for 30 seconds. Youíll see a confirmation on the dash when done correctly.

Not even 30sec...just momentary on mine and it toggles auto brights on/off as the dash “A)” symbol shows.
This is actually a minor annoyance as it happens every time I flash someone (e.g. to let them go first at an all-way stop intersection)

Page 199:
Disabling or re-enabling the system when the
vehicle is parked with the power mode is in
ON and the light switch is in the AUTO
position.
Disabling the system: Pull the light switch
lever towards you and hold it for 40 seconds.
The indicator blinks twice.
Re-enabling the system: Pull the light
switch lever towards you and hold it for 30
seconds. The indicator blinks once.

I guess, but I can toggle mine anytime while I am driving and the lights are on with just a quick flash of the brights. Can anyone else confirm?

Itís permanent until you hold it again for 30 seconds. I believe with your method, itíll reset back to auto after the car shuts off.

Agreed. I activate and deactivate this feature while driving for hours at night. I keep thinking I pull it towards me twice or away twice to activate but you maybe right jrjmurray it may be just a simple toggle.... I can't remember and I won't be back on land for a few weeks to try lol

The OP asked how to do this: "...never turn on the high beams unless I hit the high beam control lever"

Not "How do I turn the high beams off when the auto-headlights turns them on?"

Agreed. The OP wanted to disable the automatic high beam feature and return to manual only mode for the high beams. However, he still wants the low beams to automatically come on. Your reply (post #6) above gave the right solution.

I like the auto high beams, but would like them to turn on less often. There's a setting for this in the user options with 2 options for sensitivity: "LOW" or "MIN". What is the result of choosing either setting?

The automatic high beam adjustments are in "Settings" > "Vehicle" > "Lighting". I have the Navigation type display.

There's more settings in the headlight sensor adjustment than I thought. There's Minimum, Low, Medium, High, Maximum. Default was Low (sensitivity). I put mine on High and it seems to make the high beams come on less frequently and shut off quicker. I like it better like that.

my automatic high beams sometimes dis-engage by itself.

I re-engaged it by moving the light lever forward a few times and back towards me a few times.

I'm not sure what is causing it to dis-engage. I actually like the auto high beams and want it on auto mode , but it's it's going to be a headache then I mind as well shut it off.
