Maaco paint job

My Accord's clearcoat has been failing for years but it had become a real eye sore lately. I got an estimate last year from a local Maaco for $1200. Went to another one 30 min away and for $900, they'll be doing the urethane pkg + additional sanding of the shot CC areas.

I dropped off the car this morning and am looking forward to the final product!

Did that some years ago during the fall when they do it for $250. It looked good for about 2 years and then started to look bad again.

Hopefully it looks good and stays good.
We had wifes car done by Earl Scheib 10+ years ago, I think about $300. Not their highest priced job at all, but it is holding up well.

MAACO Paint Job - Good? Bad? Ugly? Depends on specific franchise?

https://www.driveaccord.net/forums/1...franchise.html

I posted the following in June of 2017, when the Miata paint was then 2 years old. The paint is now a few months shy of 4 years old and still looks new....

"Independently owned and operated.

There are two Maacos equidistant from my home. One has about 20+ cars in their parking lot at any given time, some sit for a few weeks before they get painted. The reviews at that shop are brutal.

Then the other one is run by a family acquaintance. There are usually just 2 cars sitting outside, and about 40-50 United States Post Office boxes sitting inside (so that if they finish a car early, they keep busy with their contract with the USPS). Each car is scheduled- they are not so desperate that you would go someplace else that they make you leave your car the day you come in for an estimate. They tell you when in the next week to come back- and call you the day before to make sure. They even schedule the hour to come pick it up- and again, they call you beforehand to ensure that appointment time is still good.

They did bodywork AND paint on my sister-in-law's beat to heck 1990 Miata in new "Mazda red". It is stunning! The paint is now almost 2 years old (as of June 2017), and I just saw the car in Washington, DC last week. No issues at all.

THIS Maaco gets great reviews, as it is well-managed. I may go there to have them paint my 2005 Accord- as it has the Honda clear coat fade starting in 2010.

I spent two work days in there, watching them work and asking questions when it was slow- all before I let them paint the Miata. Excellent management there. I was quoted $1,000 for my Honda."

There's a highly rated Maaco up in Lancaster PA, that I'll probably end up having my Accord painted at. I think it's about $1200 for the highest package, that includes sanding, light body work, primer and urethane paint + clear (IIRC).

Picked up the car today and I've gotta say, I'm quite pleased with the outcome. There was some overspray on the rear glass but overall not too bad. The paint appears to have been applied evenly and I don't see any sags or runs. Most importantly: No more burnt up clearcoat!! The car hasn't looked this good in so many years!

Take a look at the last pic, though, for some not-so-good news. I took a peek at the A/C condenser to make sure they didn't get any overspray on it. They didn't, but the whole bottom strip of it is breaking off! I can't say Maaco did this b/c it could've been like that from before and I just never noticed. I haven't seen such condenser failure before; maybe corrosion just rotted away the joints...? I ran the A/C on a few warm days recently and it worked fine. I don't see any evidence of leaking oil/R134a (yet). I just wanted to enjoy my shiny car, too

It looks brand new! Hopefully mine comes out that good. I haven't decided on a color still...

Sucks about the condenser though. I don't think the paint shop could have done anything to cause that IMO. Guess it's time to start saving up for a new condenser :P

Rick Blaine is right. There are all franchises. I suggest using Yelp. There's one super Maaco in the old Dallas burb of Carrollton that gets great reviews, the others not so good. Buyer beware. I have to say they are paint shops, and I would never use Maaco for collision repair.

I kept the original Noble Green Pearl since I always thought it looked sharp. I think Maaco charges a color change fee and additional money to paint the inside of the doors, hood, trunk & door jambs.

Makes sense for them to charge extra; wrap shops charge a fee for those parts as well. Since my Accord is black (and my daily driver), and I already have another black Honda, I would like to change the color. So I'm going into it knowing I'll be paying a bit more for that. I was thinking some sort of green, but I don't think I want such a dark shade like EGP or NGP. Maybe a more blue-green...

Maybe I'm just a hipster but I think that purple suits the EG Civics. Growing up my folks had a sedan in that weird bronze color with requisite burgundy interior.
