New engine running rich. Air fuel ratio meter is in the red

I swapped out my original engine for one of those 55-65K engines and ever since it has been running rich (the air fuel ratio meter is pegged in the red). My mileage is down and in the morning I grind it before it starts. During the day it runs great. Any suggestions?

I assume you have a code on the ECM. The engine is adding fuel because somewhere unmetered air is getting in to the engine.

no code- taking it to the dealer Tues. Everything was fine until the swap. I am guessing my mechanic did something.

Be sure to check the air box (filter) and the hose to the throttle body, make sure it is not loose or cracked. Other things that could cause it is a bad thermostat or temperature sensor, or possibly a bad primary O2 sensor.

but why would the primary O2 sensor go out right after the engine swap?

You need to troubleshoot the issue first, the issue is why is the fuel system adding more fuel? Either more air is being added somewhere OR a leaking fuel injector OR the device that is measuring the fuel mixture (O2 sensor) is incorrect. All depends if you used a new O2 sensor or reused the old one.

This issue will destroy the Catalytic Converter and cause more issues.
