  1. Replace struts myself or not?

    Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
It's not terribly difficult, but I wouldn't recommend going solo on this. If you don't have a workshop full of tools, and you're not familiar with what a spring compressor is and why it's important, I recommend finding a handy friend you can bribe with beer and pizza to help you out.
  2. New (to me) 2016 Accord Sport - Need Winter Wheels

    Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
It depends on the 16" wheel; my aftermarket 16" winter rims from Tire Rack just barely clears the EX brakes I have. I imagine my set of steelies would not clear, though I haven't had reason to try it. 17" rims should fit without an issue; EX and Sport brakes should be the same.
  3. Replacement tires for Honda Accord 2016 Sport - Advise needed

    Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
I got a set of those this spring and they are working well. I currently have 7,000 miles on them. They're well in summer-tire territory for dry grip. I do notice they like to follow tar strips in the road; otherwise, I have no qualms so far. I have them in 235/45-18; I considered getting a set...
  4. 2016 Accord EX-L: replace all 4 tires or 2? Anyone use Bridgestone Ecopia EP422?

    Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
I had them on another vehicle; they wore fine but had pretty terrible dry and wet grip. They're set up to maximize fuel economy over good driving characteristics. There are much better tires out there.
  5. Trip Report - A Mostly MPG Thread

    The 8th Generation
Protip: Chicago goes a lot smoother with an EZ-Pass. All the Illinois toll roads give a 50% discount for using it, you're not hassled to stop every 5 feet, and you pay for the transponder with one trip across Illinois. Even if you rarely use it, it's really handy to have. I'm going to be taking...
  6. 2010 Accord LX-P 160K miles - repair or replace?

    The 8th Generation
I've dropped $1500 on tires before - but they were attached to 18" rims straight from Tire Rack. You'd have to be trying hard to spend $800 on tires if you're still on the 16" stock rims. Shop with any kind of care and attention, and you could probably do it for $500. If you bribe a buddy who...
  7. 225/50/R17 or 235/45/R18 for Honda Accord 2009 EX-L ?

    Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
I made the jump from the 16" steelies that came with my LX to 18" rims and 235/45-18 tires. At least with the right rims and tires, you won't notice much (if any) degradation in ride quality. I got the Motegi MR131 Traklite rims, which with tires weigh maybe 1-2 lbs over the 16" set. Obviously...
  8. Need advice about car I am looking to buy. 2012 Accord.

    The 8th Generation
Become a member of a credit union. Open a credit card, even if you have to have a secured credit card (you put down the $$$ to cover your credit limit for about 6-12 months until your prove yourself). That will establish your credit history. Keep banking money, pay your credit card bills on...
  9. 2010 Accord coupe LX- S grinding and Oil Light Coming On

    The 8th Generation
Assuming your oil level is fine, you have the correct weight of oil, and you changed your filter at the same time, you may well have an oil pump issue, or something is obstructing the lines feeding the oil pump. The safest plan would be to take it to a trusted mechanic who can diagnose the...
  10. What tools do I need to Battery Change?

    The 8th Generation
Make sure he gets a group 35 or 24F size battery. The 51R that US-spec models came with all of 425CCA and was an utter joke in any below-zero weather. It's a very straightforward installation, as the previous thread shows. If they have the coin to go with an AGM battery, do it! They're much...
  11. Help. Light weight flywheel throwing all 4 cylinders into misfire / limp mode

    The 8th Generation
I've heard of this caused by the crank triggers on the flywheel for the crankshaft position sensor being inadvertently bent during installation. You'll want to have the codes scanned at a local auto parts place to verify that's the cause of your issue.
  12. 2012 LX to EX front brake swap? What am I missing?

    Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
Update: The new parts swapped over beautifully. I only encountered minor hiccups with installation. PowerStop's EX front brake and rear brake caliper kits came with all needed assembly hardware and were not terribly expensive. Each front caliper was $42 and each rear caliper was $82 (both...
  13. How many miles do you have on your 8th gen?

    The 8th Generation
2012 Accord LX, 2.4/manual, purchased 4 years ago with 32,000 miles. Picture taken yesterday. Aside from brakes and other general maintenance, no issues!
  14. 2012 LX to EX front brake swap? What am I missing?

    Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
Duly noted. It's essentially a free upgrade since I'm doing the brake job and replacing the calipers anyway.
  15. 2012 LX to EX front brake swap? What am I missing?

    Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
So, I'm due for a brake job, and with 100,000 on the clock and 7 Midwestern winters under my Accord's belt, I'm contemplating a fluid flush, new lines, and maybe new calipers along with the pad and rotor change. Here's where I need a sanity check: RockAuto has PowerStop caliper kits for the...
  16. New 2010 Accord Owner - Suggestions?

    The 8th Generation
I bumped up to 18" rims, which is large enough to put sticky rubber on without ruining the ride or adding too much unsprung weight. Motegi MR131 Traklite
  17. How many of the 291k Accords sold in 2018 were 2.0T?

    The 10th Generation
Considering that the closest 2.0T manual to me was 75 miles away when I went to test drive one, I'd buy that. Those things are really freaking rare. I have a suspicion these will be just as impossible to find used.
  18. Is anyone having tire pressure issues in cold weather?

    Wheels, Suspension & Brakes
What may be happening is the tire stem (which is attached to the TPMS) is experiencing a leak at lower temps, because all the seals have shrunk from the cold. Or, there may be a small amount of ice buildup in the stem allowing the air to escape. If this is the issue, the issue should go away at...
  19. Altitude Compensating Turbo

    General Drive
You're correct. What a tune *could* do is modify shift points to keep the engine in its power band longer, change cam timing, more aggressive spark timing, and so on to deal with the loss in air. The fact that other naturally-aspirated vehicles handle the change in altitude more gracefully...
  20. Altitude Compensating Turbo

    General Drive
I'll note the obvious - that a stock 2018 and later Accord does this altitude compensation automatically for you. ;-) By the time you've made the significant investment required to pull this off, you might as well have done a more typical turbo setup, or swapped it for a car less susceptible to...
