Hello everyone! I have an 02 Honda Accord ex running strong on 154k miles! I'm planning on changing the oil soon. What is the best oil to use for my car with that much mileage? Should I use Mobil 1 full synthetic 5-20 or something else? Also after some research I plan on using OEM oil filter 15400-PR3-004 by Toyo Roki. What do you guys think?

I prefer penzoil platinum 5w20 or 0w20.

I've been using Castrol synthetic blend 10w-40 for just about 5 of the 8 years I've owned my car without issue. I have changed the filter from Frahm to NAPA (wix) though as it is a superior filter. Oil changes are done about every 5k miles or so.

At various points in its life, our 6th gen. has run on Castrol synthetic blend, Pennzoil conventional, Castrol Syntec, Mobile 1 full synthetic and most recently Amsoil OE. Filters have primarily been OEM Honda with a few K&N's here and there. Regardless of what oil and filter combination we've run, our 6th gen has never had internal engine problems....and we've blown well past the 170K mile mark on the original engine. Knock on wood, but this motor has been as solid as an Abrams tank.

These cars aren't hard on oil so run whatever's on sale. Mobil 1 is an excellent choice; ran it exclusively in my 02 for about 50,000 miles and my mechanic said the engine was spotless when he pulled the valve cover to change the gasket. Filter-wise, Honda A01/A02, Wix, Napa Gold, and Fram Ultra are great.

hate to revive an old post, but I just noticed this one - I have only ever run Castrol through both my cars and only exclusively used Fram oil filters, however, after cutting a Fram filter open, the 'filter' media itself is paper! I don't doubt for a second that some paper has gone through my engines at some point, but I digress.. now I use only Purolator filters.. I also make sure to get high-mileage or half-synthetic.. 5W-20 for a V-6.. I also occasionally use Restore horsepower additive for 6 cylinders and Bar Leaks Rear Main Seal Repair for previous rear main seal leakage issue..

it really doesn't matter, it's all personal preference...
