The car is an '04 Accord LX, 4cyl with 112K on the clock. We've never had an HVAC issue with it. I drove it tonight (unseasonably hot in the Northeast here, 90 degrees or so) and by the time I drove about a quarter of a mile the whole system just stopped, fan and all. Nothing blows out, and the little lights showing A/C, and where the air comes out (dash, dash/feet, feet, defrost, etc.) were out...it was as if the fan switch was turned off, but it wasn't. It came on about a minute later and blew cold air, then went out after another minute, then came back on, etc...

Any ideas what this could be? Some kind of sensor getting too hot or icing over, maybe, so it quits until it thaws or cools down?

Thanks in advance.

Search the forum for more information. Sounds like a symptom for the blower transistor. Had to replace it on my 03

That's what I was thinking, but it's intermittent...the blower shuts off for a minute then starts back up as if nothing happened, then shuts off again. All of the threads I found about the transistor or resistor sounded like the motor just stopped once for good.

It's my wife's car and she loves it so much that she thinks it will heal itself.

my guess is that when you were losing all power to the HVAC that it's either an electrical issue, or something to do with the circuit board inside.
