Hey guys, As the title describes my red airbag indicator light is on 90% of the time.

A little back story; About 2 years ago the yellow air bag indicator light came on, I took it in to a dealer to fix out of warranty, $700 later they replaced the wiring harness and sensor ECU in the passenger seat. About 6 months after the repair, the red indicator airbag light came on, and being in college while working, was unable to be without my car during this time.

The light comes on most of the time, and sometimes, it doesn't display until I drive a certain length of time, about 90% of time the indicator is on. When I finally had time to get it repaired, the work they had done was out of the 12 months 12k miles warranty.

I'm not looking to spend another $700 for this to happen all over again. Apparently, the passenger airbag is nonoperational during this time and will not deploy in an accident, which is a huge concern of mine.

Has anyone else had this issue or anything similar? Can I take it to someone who specializes in airbag work or is this dealer only? any info provided is a ton of help.

Do you often keep a heavy bookbag or purse on the passenger seat? It's my understanding that if there's weight in the seat but not enough to be considered and "adult" it will disable the airbag.

I know what you mean, but nothing is in my seat when I start the car or when it's running. When my 70lbs dog is riding shotgun, she'll randomly set off the sensor and the seat belt warning will sound but the airbag light is always on.
Well when one of you airbags doesn't work, none of them work. It like christmas tree lights...atleast that is what I was told when I had an issue with the passenger side head airbag...if thats really the case than you have a serious safety issue. They replaced my entire SRS module which I think sits near the center console.

Well that makes me feel less safe, I'm not sure where these modules are.

I kinda feel compelled to find a specialist rather than a dealer, but I don't know if that's possible.
Thanks for the info.
I've narrowed this problem down to a wire harness located under the passenger seat.
I think there's a short somewhere in the line; I can adjust the wires, turn the ignition off for 5-10 minutes, and the indicator turns off. But eventually it'll turn on again.
Can I just replace this harness? It looks like it just clips in.
