When did Honda start offering two versions of the 2.4L? I was on Honda's website just now and noticed the 2011 has a 177 or whatever and 190HP "higher reving" engine in the EX & EXL's. Is this new for 2011? Did they start this with the 8th gen in '08? Thanks in advance.

This was started back in '08.

The sedan trims, LX and LX-P have like 177 or something around that area, and the EX and up had 190.

The coupe trims, are just 190 hp for the LX-S and EX models without V6.

Another question is why 2 flavors of the 2.4? Specs and performance are close enough, why doesn't Honda pick one and go with it? Both can be PZEV certified for the "clean" states.
Maybe they want to see which one sells more, or maybe something else?

Well, 190hp just looks good on paper and I don't think there is a big difference... If only honda would give the 190hp more torque.

lolz @ Kevin S.... :D

The LX/LX-P are 100 lbs. - 150 lbs. or so lighter than the EX/EX-L, so the 177hp vs. 190hp difference is a push. Though, once moving, the EX/EX-L 190hp feels like it can pass better on the highway (ie. 50-70 / 60-80 accel').

LX: 3,279 lbs.
LX-P: 3,287 lbs.

EX: 3,375 lbs.
EX-L: 3,421 lbs.

I just noted on Honda's website, the '11 Accord is now rated @ 34mpg highway! That's not too shabby for a midsized family-sedan w/ nearly fullsize capacity w/ only a 5-spd. automatic-transmission!
