Hi Guys,

I am new to this forum and would like to ask if someone is experiencing the same issue as I am. I purchased brand new 2014 Accord Sports last month and after 500 miles it start giving me noise at speed 19/20mph. There is a sound like "ghrooom" comes from engine or under the hood when my car reaches 19/20mph, and it only comes once after I turn on the engine. After that this sound never comes back on no matter if I stop at light or something and then reaches same speed. so if I say its per engine start then that would be correct.

I took it to dealer and ofcourse they said its normal, but I test drove other sports model and I didn't hear this sound at all, can anyone please tell what possible this could be? Is it the transmission? I purchased new car to enjoy as I was tired of old cars and now this new car is acting weird.

Lastly, I am only getting avg 19 MPG, I have been using regular gas, but still mileage is too low then 26 as they advertise.

Please help me!!!

Thanks,

the gas mileage on the first couple of tanks was pretty poor for me. then it improved quite a bit.

i did not have the noise you are experiencing.

If the noise only lasts at most one second, you're likely hearing the ABS/VSA system self-test. Perfectly normal, and nothing to worry about.

Not sure about that gas mileage, however.

Thanks Gfn8r & Mike5065 for the quick replies, really appreciate it.

Gfn8r,

When I drive on Sport mode and use pedal shifter I don't hear that noise. And yes it only comes for a second and rpm stays where they are.

Hi jmatteis,

That's correct, instead of drive "D" I put it in "S" and yes I used paddles to add gears.

Thanks

Yes as others have stated it is the vsa Self test. You will also notice this sound if you are driving on snow and induce wheel spin as the vsa kicks in. It'll be that same grinding sort of noise.

Driving in Sport mode wastes more gas than driving in regular Drive mode, and it's cold now so MPGs are not going to be great for a while.

Quick question, Sport mode, is that the S on the shifter??? You use the paddles exclusively in that mode?
you can use paddles in D to gear down, which is defeated once you use the gas pedal. I use D for highway driving, and paddle shift down for engine braking on off ramps.

you can use paddles in S to begin using the paddles exclusively. if you don't touch the paddles, the S mode provides more RPMs than D, and still automatically manages RPMs for you.
I use S for spirited city driving because it is more responsive with higher RPMs. I rarely use paddles in S (too much work).

the manual describes them both.

try these, you won't break it,
