Hello Honda family,

Im new to the board and honda family because i finally had enough of Nissan. I have a 2015 Honda Sport with CVT and enjoy the drive but heard a strange noise(high pitch whistle whine) at 35 to 40 MPH. I took her to the local dealership for the 10k oil change and after two test drives they concluded that the sound is cause by the CVT. To say the least I was upset and relieved at the same time. Has anyone else with the Accord Sport had this high pitch whistle. Alsmost sound like a supercharger on a diesel engine.

Thank you

I don't hear any noise in my car. Is it when you accelerate or decelerate?

Grab your phone and post up a video.

Ahhhh, the transmission noise many complains about. Use the search button. There are more threads about it.

Does it sound like this....

If so I'm pretty sure that's the normal sound the CVT makes. I personally can't hear mine from inside the car but then again I'm not really "pushing" the limits of my car they way this driver is (considering he's at the track). Also the position of the camera and mic, outside the car and low to the ground really enhances the ability to pick up that sound here.

Could be your brake pads gently gliding over your rotors. That's what I have now and I will apply corrective action sometime this weekend.

Yup, I have it in my 13 sport. I can't here it with the windows up, but can with the windows down. It hasn't really concerned m but will bring it up when it's in for an oil change.

The sound happens when I accelerate and have to maintain a speed between 35 to 40 mph. The tech from the dealership in bradenton florida that rode with me told me this is the second complaint that he has encountered in the past month. I guess most people dont pay attention to sounds when they are driving, but after working on aircraft for many years, sounds are more pronounce to my awareness. will try and post soon. Other than hearing that sound I like the Accord sport.
Thanks guys.

You are not alone and there are currently no fixes for the whine. I even have it on a 15 CRV, sounds like a dentist's drill on a CRV.

I have a 2015 Sport and it makes the noise you're describing at those speeds. My friend's 2013 does the same. It's just the nature of our CVT.

I don't think it's the CVT that's making the whistling sound. That can be ruled out because my mom has a 2009 4 cyl 5 speed regular AT Accord EX and it makes the whisling noise too at low speeds. You can noticably hear it when the windows are rolled down. I have the 2013 4cyl CVT Accord Sport and it whistles as well at low speeds. Again you can hear it when the windows are rolled down. I think it's something that's part of the engine thats making the whistling sound. Honda tweaks their engines slightly every once in a while rather than constructing a whole new design and layout. I guess that's why it explains why it's heard in both the 8th and 9th gen Accord.

The sound would be ok if the car was 5 years old, but to drive a new car that has 4k on it and getting this sound is a little concerning as to why Honda cant resolve this issue in newer generation cars. This is my first Honda and I like the ride and comfort, just was not expecting to have a whiner(LOL) so early in the mileage. But love the Honda brand. Wish Honda would make this a top priority going forward.
