No replies in the 7th Gen forum, maybe I'll get lucky here...

I'd like to replace the factory speakers in my sedan. The rear 6x9's seem pretty self-explanatory, but my questions lie with the front speakers.

Sounddomain claims that a 6.75" speaker is a "drop-in" fit for the fronts. Can anyone confirm or dispute that? Is a spacer needed?

The dash tweeters - can an aftermarket 1" tweeter be installed under the OEM grill easily? I'd like to buy a set of components for the front, installing the tweeter in the factory location, woofer in the door.

Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

The ones I have were by NO MEANS "drop in"! Although they claimed to fit. The doors needed spacers & we wanted to use the original covers....was a doable thing, but required a little bit of finase....

The rears went in pretty well though. We left the tweeters alone.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I am also thinking of replacing the stock speakers.
What size did you get for the fronts? 6 1/2s? what about the rear doors?

Thanks

The '03s have no speakers in the rear doors....just a 6 speaker total, 2 tweeters in the dash corners, 2 in the front doors & 2 in the rear deack.

Yep, the doors are the standard...6 1/2 or 6/14, whatever they are.... the rear deck has 6x9's.

Thanks Princess.

I am planning on replacing the speakers on all 4 doors, and want to have an idea what size to get.
What brand of speakers did you replace your stockies with?
Do you have an amp, or just a straight speaker replacement?

i think POLK is best fit in the factory hole...but you cant drop in because the window would touch the speaker. Our stock speaker so flimsy and crappy..you will need the adapter to extend the speakers from touching the window

the rear 6x9 i just drop them in no need to drill

LOL nobody replied to my post in 7th gen so i tried here and now i have two indentical posts going on simultaneously....and vt4lifecuf is kind enough to post on both!

my decision is between components or coaxials (keeping the dash tweeter as well) for the fronts, has anyone heard both and are able to make a comparison?

I still don't understand why more companies don't use neodymium magnets and make slim speakers....

anyone have any experience with blaupunkts? they advertise some slim speakers, unfortunately i'm not sure if anyone around me sells them.

doot :) i post pic so you can see how i mount my polk

polk its really good and slim, but the thing is window is in our way :paranoid: you can buy any brand you like..lol. Front always good with component IMO  i had kappa 6 1/2 two way before and it :thumbsdow have you try search on ebay..or crutchfield or cardomain

The only good sounding slim speaker I ever heard was the old Kenwood Excelon DB series. Very slim using a multiple magnet set up. Just cost a lot more than similar sounding speakers that were of normal construction so the didn't sell great. Almost any speaker is goingt o need to be spaced out to fit properly in the Accord. As for coaxial or seperate I would always go seperates. Personally I'm going to go with some Boston Acoustics Pro series as they have a two piece crossover so I don't have to deal with tracing down wiring for the crossover and the fact that they are very good and I get them at below cost helps tremendously :)

i agree with you, are you using stock headunit?

I have read about issues with aftermarket rear speakers and the NAV unit in the trunk. From the report the larger magnets affect the NAV compass and gyro.

Question, because the fronts have the tweeter in the dash are most replacing the door speaker with just a 6 1/2 mid/ woofer? Or installing 2 way and abandoning The dash tweeter?

Thanks.

larger magnets affect the NAV compass and gyro.
Hadn't heard that myself.... :dunno: I don't have any interference from the infinitys. I had more trouble with the tinting...we moved the NAV's antenna.

You'll think it's nuts....but the GPS antenna is now in the spoiler...yep, inside it!! Double sided taped so it deosn't move around...
