I'm about to buy a 2013 EX-L and have the VIN numbers of the two that I'm considering. According to reputable information on the web, the 8th digit shows the trim level and that differs in the two VINs -- "7" in one, "8" in the other. Running the VINs through one of the VIN decoders, however, shows them both to be EX-Ls. Does anyone here know what the difference is between a 7 and an 8 in that 8th position?

Thanks.

Enter the VIN into here, and it will tell you what the vehicle trim level is....

Thanks. Unlike the other VIN decoders I tried, this one does spit out the trim level. And namegoeshere is right -- 7 is EX and 8 is EX-L.

I think the dealer who gave me the VIN with a 7 simply grabbed the wrong one from inventory when I asked him for the VIN.
