extended warranty plan

For the people that purchased the extended warranty plan. How long/miles did you take it out for and what did you pay for it and what state do you live in.
I`ve been thinking about it but drive only about 8000 per year so I`m wondering which plan to take and how much to pay.

Hyannis Honda is worth contacting by email for the latest prices. I got 8yr/120K mile, $0 deductible Honda Care for $1,075 a few weeks ago. I live in Maryland. If there is a problem with the State you live in, Bob at Hyannis Honda should know about it.

We also probably won't drive more than 8K miles or so per year in our Honda, but chose the maximum number of years for our extended warranty. An 8yr/100K, $0 deductible was available for $960, so we could have saved $115.

Extended warranties give peace of mind that is hard to put a price tag on. You also get road side services for free for the life of the extended warranty: dead battery, locked out, out of gas, etc. protection. These probably aren't big deals now when the car is still new, but 7 or 8 years from now, they may be.

I also bought the extended warranty because the Accord is a new generation this year: first time for both the I4 and V6 engines, both CVT and 6 speed transmissions, plus all the new electronic bells and whistles.

Has anyone here bought an extended warranty out of state and had to use them (obviously for another car, not your brand new Accord)? And did you have any problems or did the extended warranty cover everything you needed done?

Yes. I bought a Mazda extended warranty for my 2006 Mazda6 from a dealer in Connecticut. As long as it's a warranty from the carmaker, it doesn't matter where you buy it. BTW Mazda dealer wanted $1700 for the warranty, I paid $875.

I used it only once, at 89,000 miles, but it was for combined repairs of about $2000 and a 3 week rental car that was free. I definitely got my money's worth!

Same boat or less on expected mileage. Haven't bought it yet but if/when I do it will be 8/100...either zero or 100 deductible. Have quotes for $1K +/- depending.

Have one on wife's '09 Civic same terms at about the same price.

Your signature says V6 Sport, I didn't think the Sport came with the V6?

I have the V6 EXL Nav. I got the 8 year 120k mile no deductible for 1200. I know I could have gotten it for a bit less but I went for it. I have bought the extended warranty on the last three cars that I have purchased and never used it so I guess I am a poster child for getting ripped off on extended warranties and then went ahead and bought another one so that does not seem very smart. And I am pretty thrifty usually so why did I do it? Well this one is 120k miles and 8 years. The other ones I had previously bought extended it out far less time and had I had this warranty I actually would have used them. I also looked at all the bells and whistles on this car like cameras, nav system, all these electronics and touch screens and I got a bit nervous. I figure one failure would pay for the whole thing and I intend to keep the car for the full 8 years. Its probably still a waste of money but it makes me feel better so why not.

You had a GTO and never used the warranty? That's surprising to me lol (I read in another topic response you had a GTO - yes I'm a stalker! lol)

I live in Ca and am wondering If anyone has heard of Honda Care through Curry Honda?

I've heard of them, was thinking about getting an extended warranty from them on my TSX but never did. Hyannis is cheaper btw.

No I never did the GTO was an almost perfect car for ten years. Other than regular maintenance the only thing I ever replaced was an ac compressor after the extended warranty had expired. Other than that the car was bulletproof the entire time I owned it.

At what point do the prices go up? For example, I purchase a car Friday with 35 miles on it. I wait a month and the car has 1,500 miles, will the price of the warranty change or stay the same?

I think it's after 6000 miles but not 100% sure. Glen?

You can buy up until the regular basic warranty expires but you're not able to get the 8 year warranties after 6000 miles I don't think. This is how it was for my Acura.
