I already have 1100 miles. How many have you put onto your 9th Gen Accord?

I purchased on 12/28/2012

Stiller fan and TX Accord- With all the miles you rack up what have you been running for tire choice and why? What is your priority if you were doing a what's most important? Rain performance, dry handling, mileage warranty, noise, rolling resistance for MPG, ability to cross rotate, concerns on snow performance?

With what you guys drive you must be buying sets almost 2x per year. Any that you really hated and why?
@TX Accord- thanks, which model# on the ZIEX? Are they directional/asymetric with an in/out? How often do you rotate, front/back only or cross?

I'm almost at 51k, my LX came with almost new Goodyear Assurance Weatheready 205/65/16 they were very good in teh couple rains we had. I put my Continental snows on for winter since I had them mounted on Sonata steel rims. A little noisier in wet but same ride noise that I can tell in dry. They worked well in the snow/ice/cold we had recently but that was how they were on the Sonata also.

I'm probably going to put my 17" Elantra rims on from the Sonata in the spring. I want to maybe plastidip or vinyl them black to see how they look. They will need tires.
to answer your question, i buy 3-4 sets of tires per year. 2 sets of snows (Michelin X-ice snow) and lately, the yokohama avid ascend. both have been good performers for how i drive, mostly on the highway. for me, traction is the biggest factor for me. although, i have noticed that i'm only around 28-30mpg since going to my snows this year. i am not sure if it is tire-related or not.

weekly check-in update: 483k miles.
Thank you. How does the treadwear mileage warranty work with the X-ice? I know they give it a 40k warranty but that's down to 2/32". Most snows have the snow wear bar at 6/32" since the snow/slush performance suffers due to depth which is probably about when you swap them out.

I might need to check out the Yoko or Falkens on the next summer round. That will probably be a while based on the tread left on the Goodyears. My last summer purchase that didn't come with a vehicle was the Michelin Primacy MXV4. They were good all around for 3-4 years for me for about 40k but then wet performance really took a dive. My next set needs to be better in the rain.

579k miles. no calls yesterday. i needed the day off after 48 hours in the car.

debating on working today. my on again, off again back pain will determine my miles today.
With all the time you spend in the car I'm surprised you never looked into getting some real Recaro seats. I don't know how that all works now with side airbags. Way back I had a set of imitation ones (FloFit like used in Saleen mustangs) that was the best ever. The way they supported between lumbar and thigh (and adjustability of all) was great. My wife hated them for sleeping as the cushions were a bit stiffer but long drives were no issues.

They used to have them as a full orthopedic version and on link, still do. I know the WRX STI has some and the Audi RS5 had some. RECARO - COMFORT . The Orthoped in cloth so you don't slide? Many have the heaters and cooling also. The "dip" for your butt on the Orthoped was what the Flofit had. Once I sat down my butt never slid forward, back never lost contact with lumbar, thigh cushion out slightly to just behind knees and drive.

I found the Audi ones very comfortable as the shoulder area was wider for support for my "larger" frame. They had them like it called "sport" but was out of my price range then. If I did the driving that much like you I'd probably get one. They make different adapters for other cars so an investment.

How come @stiller fan only picks on me for not driving mine as much? 😈
It's like the kids on the playground. They pick on some kids because they really like them and want to play with them but don't want to admit it to some of their other friends who might think they are not tough enough.

That and he passed your mileage in like the first 2-3 months he owned his so there is some jealousy and reminiscing of the cream puff you are driving.

No idea. But I got my old 2003 back. My dad had it for two years. And frankly I prefer the 2003 to the 2013. Everything's simpler, and it just works. I just need to get a replacement OEM radio for it.
I don't know if it was here at DA or somewhere else I saw the information.

My sons girlfriend had an '04 and radio display went out. they make a kit that mounts an aftermarket radio in the pocket cubby under the radio as one option. Scosche or Metra made the better version that replaced the whole ventilation control but was like $300 by itself. Some users opened the factory radio and found 5-6 surface mount resistors had fallen off that affected the display. They soldered them back on and everything worked. There was also a service on ebay or something that was doing that you could send it in and they would resolder.

If you get a replacement OEM froom junkyard or something you might wind up with same backlight issue a week later.

There are other newer options now I think that use like android tablets or something.

23204.

I had to take the car out to get it to keep the battery charged. It had dropped to 12.45 from 12.7 over the past two weeks.

I wonder if having a 34r on a riser instead of a 24f was a bad idea. Even though the 34r is 750cca and 115 rc and 55ah. East Penn AGM.
Just make sure that you turn on your headlights or rear defroster if you want to charge the battery better. Another option is a good battery charger that does a trickle/maintenance charge. If your '13 is the same as the '17 and other newer Honda's they have an electronic load detector (ELD). The alternator and systems have a variable output to tweak out the extra .001% of fuel economy for government CAFE standards. This also means that if there is barely any load that it sees, it barely charges. You driving with no load keeping everything off means not much going to recharge the battery.

Take a multi meter and see the difference. Check battery after sitting overnight for reference voltage. Start car, quick slight warm up around the block, turn all accessories off and check charging rate while running. Then turn on just headlights and check. Turn lights off and turn defrost on and check. Do the same with air conditioning. Then turn all extra's off and check again. You might be in for a surprise.

I have a CTEK 7002 charger that I bought after watching some videos on battery maintenance from Optima and MercedesSource. It works for spiral cell, AGM, regular flooded, has a recondition and supply mode. I ruined an older Optima with an older "Heavy Duty" charger. This one now works well for all my cars. I also use a Solar BA9 tester to check on the condition of the batteries.

I couldn't tell you long term issues but my friend is a VW mechanic. He steered me away from a 2014 Passat diesel stick shift. He did recommend the new Jetta and it is about $20k, comes in a manual tranny BUT the automatic gets better mileage. Rated for 41mpg highway, he was driving one and getting more than that.

Did you ever check through Consumer Reports for reliability ratings?

I havent checked consumer reports for years. I did used to buy the annual auto issue though.

I know that VW has a myriad of issues. But, I also know that another courier friend swears by jettas; she's had I think 5 of them (2 totalled, one sold to her brother). Never any issues with hers honestly.

I think the issues on some were with electronics and window regulators etc. Most mechanical and suspension my friend said was rock solid as well as rust (lack thereof) because of their dipping/primer process.

I dont think that I could Fit. I have long legs...

The Fit is very deceiving on space. My friend has one ('07 Sport, 5MT) there was like 2x the amount of space inside as compared to out. He's over 200k, still getting 40mpg+. His only complaint is the power for hills etc.

He just bought last year a Civic Si 4 door, 6MT. Loves it. Getting almost same mileage as the Fit BUT a lot more fun to drive and plenty of power, no need to downshift on long highway hills.

Long winded video's but Alex on Auto's on Youtube does some really in depth reviews of vehicles.
I For reference I got a RAV4 Hybrid, it's early but up to this point, around 48 for the driving I do. I did do a 320 mile round trip from Albany to Westchester and got 41. The power and insant (yes, on/off switch instan) throttle response and highway passing is fantastic, about 75% of the Accord V6 I had, this surprised me. .
My sister has a Rav4 Hybrid in Westchester. She commutes from Peekskill to Purchase. She gets in the 40mpg+ regularly and took a trip to Florida also in the 40mpg+. She bought it after driving a CRV, Murano and some other vehicles. She also likes the instant power.

I don't know longevity with the battery packs but it has good room, rides good, has AWD and gets better mpg than the Accord........BUT.........it's NOT a stick shift 😁

I'm going to assume that this was done on a drag strip/track, and leave it at that...

That's a long drag strip/track or an oval if you can set cruise control for that.:whistle: or he currently in Texas at that pay highway thing.....yea that's it.

@stiller fan which mt fluid did you ran in the 9th?
iirc he was using the GM Synchromesh Friction Modified . Another option that was popular on many forums further back was BG Synchro Shift II, as well as Pentosin MTF 2.

I used the BG in my old Corolla and it stopped the light grinding I had for over 30k (70k-100k) that dealer and others said I needed rebuild. Grind went away and was excellent for next 120k until totaled many years later. I swapped it every 2 years after that for same.

Pentosin MTF2 was on a Hyundai TSB to help fix cold weather shift issues in Genesis. My Sonata was bad at 1-2 shift fir a while below 30 degrees. The BG was better. The Pentosin a bit better then BG in the Sonata.

I tried Ravenol in the Accord. It was about the same as my 50k factory. I drained 1qt and put some Redline in, it was better. I swapped that for the GMSFM, which does feel good so far. I might try BG next time. I have some of each in the cabinet to do some swaps.

You can read some here from BITOG and then other threads. MolaKule had a one thread and in it was all the different viscosity for many fluids. The range and additives might make one better than the other. IIRC the Honda MTF, BG, GMSFM, Pentosin were all in almost the same ranges.

Coming close to 80k in the next couple days. Oil MM is at 10% so need to do that also.
You're like the lowest mileage on here.
Stiller fan does that in like 3 months.

Just turned 83,000. Dropped it at my son's school as he is road tripping to see his fiancé and then to a friends house further away for the weekend.
