There are probably not many hybrid owners out there that have had one or more oil change yet, but I was just curious how many miles you are getting between oil changes or what your current oil life/miles are?

It appears to be much greater than a non-hybrid. In my experience the non-hybrid gets about 7,500 miles between oil changes. I got my hybrid in December and I'm currently at 8,000 miles (40% city/60% highway) and I'm still at 40% oil life so it's probably not going to want an oil change until about 12,000 miles.

Since the hybrid engine probably runs about 30-40% less it makes sense that you would be able to drive more between oil changes.

I've just had my second A1 service due from the car at 11500 with the PHEV, so not sure the hybrid engine runs less is true here. Maybe the rules are different on the Plug-In, but I wouldn't think so.

Time matters too. Don't go over a year.

My friend's Prius c is asking for it's third oil change at 19988 miles.

Approaching three months with the HAH and am just shy of 1400mi. I'd need to confirm but the oil life is still at 90%, it might have dropped to 80% but I doubt it (does it move in 5 or 10% increments?). At this pace I'll be changing oil and filter on a 12mo schedule instead of miles driven.

10% increments until 20% then 5% increments.

Unless it's been changed in the past few months Toyota doesn't use a system like Honda that looks at how you drive, their's just looks at miles and nothing else. The maintenance required light on my Prius also went on after just 5K miles which was the required OCI until early in 2010. I received a letter from Toyota in the spring of 2010 informing me that the OCI on my 2010 Prius had been increased to 10K miles. But they never changed the software and the light still needed to be reset every 5K miles.

Your friend might want to check that out, the OCI on the Prius or the Prius C should be 10K miles.

BTW I did have several used oil analysis done on my Prius after 10K miles using Mobil 1 0W20, they all indicated that I could have gone several thousand miles further.

Bought my HAH in mid-February. Now at 8900 miles with oil life showing 30%. (I do mostly highway miles, 50 each way to work and back.)

This is incorrect. Toyota uses full synthetic 0W-20 oil, and calls for a oil and filter change every 10,000 miles, or yearly.

Every 5,000 miles, a service is due, with tire rotation and checking fluids.

Toyota does not use a MM like Honda does, a maintenance due light shows up automatically about 5,000 miles since it was last reset.

Toyota Care covers the first 25,000 miles of oil changes and tire rotation at no charge to the owner.

In the past I was told when you buy a new car there's a break-in period where you should not drive too fast and get your oil changed quicker than normal to remove the metal filings from the engine from when the car is new.

Does that not apply to the HAH?

First oil change for my HAH at 11,200. (I do mostly highway driving.) The oil "life" was still reading 10%. FWIW.

That's great! Saving oil helps save the planet and the money in our wallets too.

Well you see if you don't need frequent oil changes then you are not spending as much.

Also, 2 + 2 = 4.
