After 16 years, it was time to part ways with my 07 V6 Accord Coupe.
Wheel Tire Car Vehicle Automotive tire

Traded in on a 2017 Accord Touring Sedan with all the bells and whistles that I’m still trying to figure out. Love this new to me car but I loved my old Accord too.
I got very choked up driving away from the dealership leaving my old Accord behind.
Anyone else become emotionally attached to their cars like me or am I crazy?

Congrats! 9G touring is a beautiful car! As far as your question, not really (you’re not crazy lol). At least not to me. I was like that when my first Accord, the 06LX, was totaled years ago. Never thought I would ever shed a tear over a car but I did lol. And I’m really not an overly emotional man. I didn’t even cry in my grandma’s service when she passed even though I loved her dearly (and she did die in her 80’s). It was like that for me with the 9G when I traded in too. 🥹 I think part of it is the overall car ownership experience too and whatever experience you associate with it. If it’s overwhelmingly positive, it’s hard to see it being let go even if there’s a good reason to let it go. This was why I didn’t sell my TL right away when I got my current car (even though I had thought about it). When I finally sold it recently to a family friend, I was actually happy to see it in the hands of an owner that actually loved the car and would use it daily for commute (yes, I told them the poor in town mpg but they still wanted it). I didn’t have to sell it, but I’m happy I did. It’s not necessarily the price either (I cut the friend a sweet deal), but seeing someone who’s going to take care of it, drive it daily rather than have it sit most of the time and only driven occasionally every week, makes me happy. I think if you think of it that way, you’ll feel much better! 😉

Welcome to DriveAccord! I hope your 2017 Accord Touring provides you many year (and miles) of happy ownership.

For what it’s worth, I post photos of all the places I travel with my Accord, I clean it regularly, and put significant money into keeping it in good shape… so yeah, I get the whole attached-to-an-inanimate-object thing.

- Overall car ownership experience -
This is it right here and the memories associated with the car.
Picked up a woman I met at her home for our first date with that car; she’s now my wife. All the places we’ve been with the car, the vacations we took….
The thousands of times that car has taken me to work so I could earn a living,
Teaching my then 15 year old niece how to drive in that car…
The Saturdays I enjoyed washing & waxing the car, doing my own repairs…
With the exception of a couple of flat tires, the car never let me down or stranded on the side of the road….. like the Chrysler I own previously did.
I just hope my old Accord ends up in good hands with someone who’ll take good care of it.
Feeling sad just thinking about it…

Yeah I think it's kind of natural to appreciate a machine that's more reliable than many people. I do like ol' Fred, my 8th gen, and plan to keep him around.

I think that’s the idea. The car’s so reliable that it’s there with us throughout the ups and downs, the good and the bad and never missing a beat.

Except the time when their shitty battery stopped working, but I digress.
