I have polk db6500(100W RMS) in front and polk db690(100W RMS) in the back. I was using them with aftermarket HU for few months. 2 days ago i have installed new 4 channel amp 70 X4 @ 4ohms.
After i installed my amp and i let it play on high volume i have notice strong electrical smell coming out from my left front speaker. Is this normal? Maybe some kind of break in period or should i expect that that speaker will blow out soon... I checked all connections and everything is fine, so i don't understand why i get this electrical smell???
One more question i'm getting noise distrubtion in speakers while engine is on. What is solution for that? Thank you very much :notworthy

No the electrical smell is not normal. I would say that you are cooking a voice coil which will lead to speaker failure pretty fast.

You should not have any engine noise, but this will depend on how you ran your wires and a lot of other variables. If you can postsome pics of the install that would help. Some basics are the power and signal wires should be on oppostie sides of the car from each other and you have to have a very solid ground point for the amp.

Did you set your gains properly? Not that 70w would blow your speakers but it might have to do with the noise (and the smell... if it's REALLY high).

That smell is normal for new speakers when you decide to play a low frequency tone at high volumes for some time. Just try not to do it again :D
