Since we can't put in a DIN-sized head unit, I'm wondering if there's any stereos that have a faceplate that separates from the body of the radio with a cable hooked up to it. Then, you could install the faceplate somewhere and just slap the radio guts under the seat or something.

I could envision drilling a bracket onto the surface of the center pocket and mounting the faceplate on it. It is disappointing not being able to just swap out the head unit with a better one.

You can customize any detachable faceplate stereo to be a remote mount.

I did it with my Alpine in my other cars. Just got take your time with the wiring.

It's too bad radio makers don't have other options than DIN like including cables with out us having to jerry rig something. I guess a cable setup would still be a problem for playing CDs.

There is room in the cubby for a single din, you would have to make your own bracket out of the door or fiberglass or plastic.

Best bet would be to add an external amp to the factory radio.
