I just swapped my spark plugs (and coils) a few weeks ago, after 14 years running on the same plugs! I only ever changed them because of a blinking CEL and rough idle\misfire. They were burned out good when I removed them. Torqued them by hand and seems to run fine so far.

I realize it’s an old thread, just adding my history here. Engine started clicking, but I didn’t realize what was happening until after the fact. CEL came on, code was engine misfire. Bought new plugs, since the car was about 12 years old at the time, figured it was due. Came home, let the engine cool, then as I was moving it to install the new plugs BAM #5 plug blew out the coil pack and all the threads with it.

Had a mechanic helicoil it, that was about 4 years ago. No issues since.

They are hosing you. You shouldn't have done anything with them for that amount. What happened to getting a second opinion? That's highway robbery, never go to a dealer unless you are rich.

$3000 to pull out a head, cut it, and helicoil it is not that bad by any means, esp at a dealer.
