I haven't seen this mod on the site so i thought i would post the video.
it allows for the trunk to open an extra inch or two over what it does now
having the trunk open a little more will help me out!

the video is terrible to watch but at least it shows what to remove.
if this video or mod was already posted, sorry. i looked thru the 11 pages or so and didnt see anything

i added sufficient weight to my trunk lid with deadening and acoustic stuffing in all voids so my trunk lid is dense and non-resonant and self-closing - no more slamming the trunk lid. i prefer closing a trunk and having it sound like a vault door closing, not a tin can falling on the ground.

the only trick to the clips holding the covers on is to get the inner pin pulled out before removing the entire clip. when you insert the clip back, keep the inner pin pulled out until the clip is fully seated again.

the weight also helps hold the trunk lid open so it is more stable when open. removing the weight can cause the trunk lid to close prematurely, which can cause injury to the face or head.

I guess I don't understand why they put that weight in there in the first place.

It doesn't seem necessary.

The weights are on all 8th gens too.

I removed mine and what a difference! We calculated it out and just on the 2009 model year alone if Honda eliminated that part it would have saved the company $8m.

There's no engineer on the planet who can give me a reason why the trunk MUST be built with that weight!

you haven't spoken to honda engineers...

the weight is placed to provide stability of the trunk lid. it lowers the center of gravity of the trunk lid so the weight isn't at the top. this reduces the tendency of the trunk lid to close accidentally. i noticed this when removing the weight on both my 6th gen and my 9th gen. i left it on because i trust Honda to put things there on purpose, especially if they do it for over a decade.

your savings are moot when they start getting sued for injuries sustained for accidental trunk lid closures.

You're wrong.

Removing the weight puts the bias to the top of the lid, forcing it to want to stay open all the time. I've had the lid open during strong winds and it stays open. In fact I have to slam the lid if I want to close it, which is what you want. Without the weight, soon as you release the lock the lid opens and wants to stay open. With the weight it wants to stay closed.

Back at the 1998 Accord intro they brought up the trunk weight, and said it was there to absorb vibrations.

My driveway is on a pretty steep angle so it tends to fall back down pretty easily unless I deliberately push it up totally.
I removed my weight and it goes up a little bit easier now.

I posted the rubber band (it's actually a rubber bungee) mod a while back. Everyone needs to do it. Best $5 spent!
im having trouble finding that thread with a search, can you point me in the right direction?

I prefer the wind not to fling my trunk open and stress the hinges when i pop it. Plus, I have a v6, so without the weight the front end would really bog down when cornering. The horrible handling all the i4 owners complained about that pushed them to buy the CVT would be even WORSE :).

I have a 6-6 coupe. There has been no bogging down since I removed it a few years ago. Car handles exactly the same. That weight has zero effect on handling. Whoever told you that is an idiot.

Besides, Honda is a smart enough car company to understand that adding weight does NOT improve handling.

I like it that my trunk doesn't fling open, so the weight will remain there along with my sound deadening/insulation.

My rental Fusion's trunk opened all the way when pushing the release, which I much prefer. Will removing this weight let the Accord's trunk do that?
