My 2017 6-6 coupe has 18k miles and this is the third oil change. All maintenance to date has been performed by Honda Cars of McKinney, where I’ve had nothing but excellent service. I have pre-paid oil changes and scheduled maintenance through Honda which is covered through 80k miles. I’m usually in and out but was on the other side of town and traveling the next week.

I tried a new dealer close to home for a routine oil change two weekends ago rather than my usual dealership. David McDavid in Frisco changed the oil but said my alignment is off, the tires are feathered, wearing unevenly and need to be replaced soon. My inspection is due in two months so that also needs attention. All told, they wanted $300 to address everything and strongly urged me to agree to the recommended services. Keep in mind they felt my alignment was out and the tires are in need of replacement.

I passed....give me my oil change and let me leave.

When I got back in town, I visited the local NTB where my other vehicles have their tires, alignment and related work performed. They inspected the alignment and everything was dead on. Same with the tires, they had 6/32 left and there were no signs of u even wear.

Needless to say, I’m not going back to David McDavid for service of any sort.

I hope if you use them, you get a second opinion before agreeing to any services they try to sell you.

Of course... nothing new. I was surprised how bold they were with WHAT they said was wrong.

Only use a dealer for warranty work.

I've had the same experiences as you. The David McDavid dealership in Frisco is useless. Their Acura dealership in Plano is even worse.

Did they give you any sort of print-out showing current alignment values vs. specified?

You need a new Johnson rod in there.

@slimm1469

X ... and recalls.

It occurs to me that a good reply after a pressure upsell at the dealer is: "THANKS! I'll tell my mechanic to look at that!"

X

Copy your entire message from here to their Facebook page. Mail (snail mail) to their general manager and their maintenance manager.

IMO "stealerships" get into a spiral: crappy service becomes aggressive upsell becomes crappier service and more upselling and it never ends.

I've never been pressured at a dealership for anything. OTOH, I avoid them as much as possible...

1. 1st oil change (and please do a full inspection while you're at it).
2. Warranty repairs.
3. Recalls.
4. Parts department.

That's it. That's all.

Alignments are big money makers, I usually just fold and get it done when new tires are purchased. One place didn't even give me the printouts, was a little pissed about that. Next time I'm going to stay that I have a lifetime alignment from Firestone, that should shut them up.
