My family has an 04 accord automatic 4cyl with 80k miles. During the fall there was a vibration around 60mph on the front passenger side. I took it to a mechanic and they said it was the axle. After the repair it seemed fine. Now, I noticed something was leaking so I went under the car and it looks like transmission fluid is leaking from where the passenger axle connects to the transmission.

I drained transmission fluid and only about ¾ of 1 qt was in there. I replaced it with 3 quarts.

Is there a axle seal that might be causing this leak? Is this a problem during axle installation or is this a sign of transmission failure?

Yes there is an axle seal. Chances are it got disturbed during the process of the axle replacement. At 80,000 miles that seal is hard and should have been replaced while the axle was out. It's only a few bucks more. We always suggest new seals. It's easier to replace while it's a part the first time rather than having the customer come back and do it all over again.
